On Agate Hill by Lee Smith

My friend's mom recommended it to me. :) So far it's good. I like how Smith writes. It's vivid and the personality of the main character is bright and sharp, believable.

I'm currently reading Damsel Under Stress, which is the third in the Enchanted, Inc. series. Light and fun reading! I couldn't wait to get back to something light, although after having finished The Poisonwood Bible, I wanted to read more like that. But I don't have any more like that at the moment, so fun it is. :D

^^Mmm, once thought about reading The Poisonwood Bible for an English class... what do you like about the book?

Reading The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke aloud with my little sister. I like it so far. Venice = :D

One of my favorite books of all time are the Twighlight series. Love them, and always will!

Re: The Poisonwood Bible, I liked the story a lot. I thought it was well-written, and I feel like I learned something from it if the political aspect was true, as the author says it is in the author's note at the beginning of the book. I also liked the message, of what can go wrong when people assume things about other cultures, and when we're complacent about what's going on in other parts of the world.

I'm now reading the second book of the Ugly series. It's called Pretties by Scott Westerfeld.

To put my two cents in here: I really liked The Poisonwood Bible and have read it twice. I loved the different voices that she gave to the characters who were so very different from one another. The story was intriguing, although a bit disturbing at times. I also liked learning about Africa and the wars that went on there in the 50's and 60's. Barbara Kingsolver is a very good writer and so she makes reading a pleasure.

I have just finished "Have a little faith", which is one of Mitch Albom's finest works. It crosses the barriers of distance, belief, values and hopes to signal that we are all really on about the same thing. My gratitude to Mitch and to the Rabbi and Minister for their generosity of sharing and caring. Highly recommended for anyone who is reflecting on what it means to serve humanity with grace and humility.

I'm currently reading The Football Factory by John King. The film adaptation is one of my favourite movies, which inspired me to read the book. The book is very different however, much darker and grittier, and at times difficult to read - I'm gonna persevere with it though, and post a review when I'm done.

In reply to comments on The Poisonwood Bible:

Hmm, I think I'll look into it again. Yes, I've heard Kingsolver is a good writer, and I could surely use some good writing to inspire the writer side of me. And to beef up my own writing. Thank for the input and recommendation. :)

Just finished the last book I was reading. [See Last Book You Read and Rating thread]

I thinking... The Calling by Alice Croggon. Something more my style and match, hopefully.

Right now I am reading Under the Dome by Stephen King. I am about 600 pages into a 1072 page book, so the jury is out. Is anyone reading this now? Just curious, I would like to know what others think who are reading it.
