I enjoyed reading this novel. I loved how the author mixed genres and how he vividly described ancient Rome civilization. The love story between Catrin and Marcellus made the story even more interesting for me. It was a travel back in time and an interesting read

I enjoy reading history fiction novels. Though the book fall on that genre My interest in reading the book was stopped when i realised it contained some traits/features I wouldn't want to feed my mind.

Apollo's Raven is historical fiction, set in Roman times. I am a fan of historical fiction but only if it is somewhat accurate for the time period. I think the author did a good job of making sure the true history of the time period was accurate. The story was satisfying, with a twist at the end. I would recommend.

I'm not a fan of historical fiction, but the summary promises a good read. The reviews are good, and I would love to check this book out.

I have yet to read this book. However, I did read some of that sample from when it was the Book of the Day and what I read of it sounded very promising. So I’m definitely thinking of reading it at some point but will put it on my TBR list for the time being.

I finished the book a few days ago, and overall I would give it a 4 out of 4 because I very much enjoyed the book and would read it again. I saw no grammatical errors, or spelling and punctuation errors, the plot was great. It was fast paced, and the author inspired the reader to feel the same emotions as the characters would. For example, I felt pouring irritation when Catrin would explain something to her mother, but her mother was too stubborn to listen to what she would say. Catherine had the powers of the raven, but could not relate the knowledge she had gained to her family because of Agrona. I enjoyed the chapters that were dedicated to individual characters perspectives and actions. I believe the author did a very good job, and look forward to the next book.

Linnea Tanner's writing exudes her love and fasciation of historical Romans and Celts which naturally interweaves cultural, political and religious information, which is the base of the whole story. The theme of the book could be broken down to whether people's fates are determined by the deeds of their ancestors or their own actions. Conceptually, the story would be considered as one of the best historical romance to date however it falls flat for me due to its execution throughout the book.

From trite and blatant dialogue between the characters that overstates the story’s narrative, the idea of subtlety was lost in the creation of this tale. Tanner switches narrators from chapter to chapter, and on many occasions, this seemed to be so that the character, such as the sorceress Agrona or Queen Rhiannon, could tell rather than show the reader things in order to move the plot forward rather than giving the main characters more depth in the story. Thus, I wasn't really invested in the other characters' fates, as they were background players, and didn't really understand why they were given a voice in the first place.

I find the story interesting and there's a lot of promise to a lot of it, but I do feel like the author uses the wrong words sometimes when describing things. There have been several times I've thought "I don't think they meant that there". The amount of thought through the historical aspects is impressive.

jcoad wrote: 03 Sep 2018, 21:05 I had a hard time making it through the free sample. Seemed like a "Harlequin Romance" meets Hercules kind of thing. I couldn't take it serious. Is it a truly historical fiction or just a corny story that leads to erotic scenes?
I agree with you wholeheartedly. The romance overshadowed any of the historical features. It was all about them hooking up. Unfortunately, I read more than the sample to give it a chance and I wished I hadn't read more. It got worse.

My rating for Apollo's Raven is 4 out of 4 stars. I thought it was a well-written book with great descriptions of the people and places.

One of my favorite parts is the talk that Queen Rhiannon has with Catrin. She tells her that where she lives now that as a woman she can own property, be a ruler, a warrior, a Druidess, and a mother and be judged by the people for her actions. If to Rome with Marcellus she will not have a say in her life because the Roman father has complete control over his family – wife, children, and slaves. She doesn’t want Catrin to be treated as a trollop.

I didn't like that the people didn't believe her when she tried to tell them about Agrona and treated her liked she was deranged. I would definitely recommend this book to people that I know who love romance books.

Historical Genre is definitely my favourite genre. I give this a 4. I loved the characterization the most. The narrativization could have been better at times.
