The Wicked Housewives is an eye opener that sometimes most people are in a relationship for what they could get from it. They are willing to sacrifice their partners for money and politics.
According to the author the case was a conspiracy that had a third party - a tailor named , Giorgio DiSipio who helped the women to kill their husbands for some insurance money. Thank you for the review. It teaches a good lesson even as the book reveals age long prejudice against blacks, Jews and other racial minorities in Philadelphia.

I enjoyed this sincere and well-written review from bookowlie, thank you. From the Amazon sample and the excellent review, this sounds like a book I'd love to dive into. Historical fiction based on fact always makes for a great story and the author appears to have achieved just that.

The fictional story is based on true events. Housewives murdered their husbands for the money but also because they had other problems which would be solved by the deaths. The guy assisting them and sharing in the spoils must have been very cruel and unfeeling. Thank you for the great review.

Set up in the 1930s, this semi-fictional story is an intense crime drama. A group of Philadelphia housewives conspire with the local tailor to murder their husbands with the common motive of insurance money. Their other motives are unveiled later on as the story progresses. I like that the characters have their own backstories. That was a great review.

I admire the incentive of the author Gus Pelagattito to write about the crimes he heard of as a kid. I believe this is one way to keep history alive. The Wicked Wives is a book I would love to read.

Thank you for your great review of The Wicked Wives by Gus Pelagatti.
I almost decided NOT to read the book based on the title.
I changed my mind after I read your fantastic review, the sample pages I read, and your comments re: title of the book.
Lesson learned (again): don't judge a book by its cover or its title!
I realized the book is character-driven, has great character development.
I'm planning to read the book.

Hearing of the way it was written by Gus Pelagatti, his characters are deep and true, and this story has a very complicated plot. This novel is able to impress and stay with the mind of anyone who dares to dive into its dark and complicated world. Congrats on #BOTD

This is a great review! I read the sample and was also sucked in from the first few chapters! Thanks to your review I am excited to keep reading. I agree with the review about benefitting from a different title, as it was the subtitle that caught my attention.

The Wicked Wives sounds like a compelling blend of historical events and fictional storytelling. The premise of housewives conspiring with a local tailor to commit murder for insurance money is intriguing, especially set against the backdrop of 1930s Philadelphia.

Thank you for an interesting review. The book seems captivating to read. Although I do not like crime books, I will definitely read this specific one just to know the motives behind their actions. I'm eager to read and learn.

Your insightful review of "The Wicked Wives" by Gus Pelagatti truly captures the essence of this riveting historical fiction novel. The intricate web of deceit, the depth of character development, and the vivid portrayal of 1930s Philadelphia all contribute to making this book an immersive experience for the reader.

I agree with your assessment of the characters—while they may not be inherently likable, their complexities and the moral ambiguity they navigate make for compelling storytelling. The interplay between motives driven by financial desperation, personal vices, and tangled emotions adds layers of intrigue to the narrative.

Your observation about the title is particularly astute. "The Wicked Wives" might indeed mislead potential readers, overshadowing the rich storytelling and historical context that lie within. A more evocative title could certainly broaden the appeal of this exceptional work.

Thank you for highlighting the strengths of this book and providing valuable insights into its nuances. Your review serves as an excellent guide for readers seeking a captivating tale woven with historical intrigue and human drama.

This story has a really dark theme, with wives murdering their husbands. I like that the author made an effort to humanize them and make their motivations relatable. Congrats on botd!!

The plot of this book intrigues me already. To think that these wicked wives murdered their husbands for money and because they were having an affair is appalling. Still, I'm intrigued enough to want to delve into this thrilling murder mystery.
