Im sure you didnt cause offense, of course most of us have moved forward from the hisorical differences between Ireland and England, its just a sweet victory when we beat them, theres no undercurrent there, just friendly banter for the most case. Of course, i couldnt care less either way not being a rugby fan..Ant wrote:Typical and dated, we're not all Henry viii or Wayne Rooneys come to that, most of us live in 2011 and the majority of us are relatively normal.

Anyway, i have a rant: Old Drivers. Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, yeah there are bad drivers of all ages but there are a huge amount of drivers of 70+ who simply should not be on the road. I have lost count of the number of old drivers who fail to indicate, brake 100 yards before a light, drive at 5mph etc. All annoying enough but today i came as close as i have ever done in 6yrs driving to crashing when going down to Cork, was tapping along at 80kph (limit was 100kph) when this old biddy ahead of me decided she wanted to turn off left into a new street. No problem she indicated, then decided HALFWAY THROUGH TURNING INTO THE SREET that she changed her mind and wanted to go straight on. This sudden stoppage forced me to swerve right to avoid her, if there was oncoming traffic i wouldnt even be typing this i would be dead, then the car behind me had to do the same as the stupid cow didnt even realise she was causing an obstruction with her stopping half in and half out of the road. Nearly killed 2 people because of her stupidity, there wasnt a name under the sun i didnt exclaim as i honked the horn.
Anyone over 65 should me forced to redo their driving test in the interest of public safety, fact.

I know Fran the adrenaline was buzzing for hours, at least i have learned to never trust anyone else behind the wheel, you pick up more tips the longer you drive any today was a valuable lesson. I didnt trust anyone before but after today not even an indication will sway me, only when the car is out of sight will i relaxFran wrote:OMG that's a bit of a scare to get .... so glad we didn't loose our esteemed Moderator

Exactly ... put it down to experience. Sunday's are notorious for half wit drivers on the road.StephenKingman wrote:I know Fran the adrenaline was buzzing for hours, at least i have learned to never trust anyone else behind the wheel, you pick up more tips the longer you drive any today was a valuable lesson. I'm madder than the proverbial wet hen [as we say here]; it's only appropriate that it's just rained. Because, with said rain my landline telephone circuit had shorted out yet again. Happens every time it rains now. I've had a technician check things and it's not in my residence's wiring; it's in the trunk line somewhere between my home and the calling/switching office. I get letters from time to time from AT&T thanking me for being a longtime customer, and offering other services such as their U-Verse and DSL [I'm on dialup, by the way]. How can I justify the additional expense when the friggin' pair of wires [that hasn't been replaced since my subdivision was built, in 1962] that all this would be traveling through can't stay dry and intact after a light-to-medium shower? Is this the best we can do to maintain communications infrastructure? GET OUT OF HERE!!

That sounds close. Youve always got to watch the other guy. Theres a lot of lousy young drivers out there, too. Here in Mexico people are laid back, never in a hurry, willing to wait in line for hours at the bank, etc.... until they get behind the wheel of a car, then they go completly nuts. The speed limit is 80 km but no one goes 80. usually double that. They pass on curves, down the wrong side of the road, cut out in front of you so you have to come to a squealing stop, and theres memorial crosses all along the main highway where somebody got wiped out. In Washington state in the US you have to take a driving test every year over the age of 65 or 70, dont remember which. If I ever get to the point where I start losing my reflexes thats when I sell the car and start walking.StephenKingman wrote:Im sure you didnt cause offense, of course most of us have moved forward from the hisorical differences between Ireland and England, its just a sweet victory when we beat them, theres no undercurrent there, just friendly banter for the most case. It did this past weekend, love. A decent succession of showers, at that; they were/are sorely needed.Fran wrote:It rains in Texas?

1. I HATE MY CAR!!!! For one it's an awful gas guzzler. Costs me 10 bucks a day to go to school and back. It's been needing brakes for a while and I've been putting it off and putting it off due to financial matters, which is a-whole-nother rant in itself. Anywhoo, then the thing starts beeping constantly and saying oil pressure low. So I break down spend cash I don't have and go buy brakes, oil, and an oil filter. The Bf changes the brakes and oil, and in the process discovers that the oil pump ain't working right either! Great. Just lovely. More money to spend. So I call the garage and they say it'll cost $250 plus the cost of the parts and they cain't even get to it for two weeks and even then it might be another two weeks or more before I can get my car back. So I scratched that, went and bought the oil pump at my local auto supply store, which, thankfully, was only 35 bucks, and my bf is going to fix it. Well, now the news says it's gonna rain for 3 or 4 days, so seeing as we don't have an outdoor shelter of any kind, it's probably gonna be a week before he can get the car fixed. So, as far as getting to school, I'm borrowing my uncles truck for the week which is even more costly in the gas area than my car. I think I'm about ready to just sell the darn car and get me a little pickup truck like I've always wanted to do.
2. I got a letter this week saying that I have less than two weeks left of unemployment. I'm hoping I get another extension, but if I don't then I'm gonna have to get a job. I'll have to go to school all moring and work all afternoon and never have any rest. Not what I want to be doing right now. But, I guess I gotta do what I gotta do, so. And I gotta hope that if I do have to get a job, that I can make enough and still be able to go to school. I am not in favor of having to quit school after having finnaly gotten to go back. I'm praying for that extension, but the way the economy is going over here it's looking like they're gonna cut out everything. If they do there goes my food stamps too. Then I'll really be screwd over. Supposedly it's gonna be the depression all over again. Oh well, all I got to say is GOOD RIDDANCE!!! Maybe the rick folk and politians will have to suffer along with the rest of us. Then we'll see what all they have to say about HOPE and CHANGE that DIDN'T EFFING HAPPEN!
Ok this is going nowhere. Enough whining, before I get myself in trouble, I'm gonna go take my frustration out on that heaping pile of dirty dishes in the sink. Be back later.
