General Hancock is quite a character. A warrior who fought hard for his country and made a legacy that will live forever. Men will lean to believe in their cause and win an argument with life from character such as this. Kudos to the author for making his story even better.

I am impressed to hear that the book is professionally edited and written, although I am not surprised as the author was a soldier himself. As an ex-soldier also, I know that most soldiers pay attention to such matters as years of writing in the military teaches you this habit. The sample that I read was truly enjoyable, and I can see that i will enjoy this book. The review also impressed me as it describes the human parts in the book very well!

I agree the soldiers don't get enough credit for what they endure, then and now. I don't really enjoy reading about military exploits, so I am going to pass on this book. However, I greatly enjoyed reading your review, as always!

Nobody wins in war; it always ends in both sides hurt and damaged. This book seems to be very well-written, capturing the essence of what soldiers go through as they swear to protect their country. Drama and action at its best, based on the reviewer's words! Congrats!

Soldiers do a lot to keep us safe. It's sad they don't get the appreciation they deserve. That said, I don't know if I have the stomach for a book like this; I'm squeamish about gruesome violence. I will give it some thought, though.

Ah. Perfect! Both your review and it seems the book as well. It's been a while since I've sunk my teeth into a history book and I know very little about the American civil war. I may have to read this one. I have several relatives named Hancock who served in the Civil War. Not sure if the Hancock here is an actual historical character, but I'd like to read it. Thanks for the excellent review. You are a good writer.

“I am a Soldier, First and Always” The Distinguished Career of Winfield Scott Hancock by James Harold Kelly, is a great read but I am not a fan of historical fiction books. Great review though and congrats to the author on BOTD.
