Excellent review! This poetry collection looks intriguing. I like your comment that the poems have a "purposeful tempo" and "clear pattern."

The poems' themes sound incredibly relevant, given what Syrian refugees have gone through. I can't imagine the amount of inner turmoil that someone who currently lives in Syria has to face on a daily basis. This is a very notable choice for reading on the effects, from the sound of this review.

These quotes sound so intense and thought-provoking: “I am from the secret service boots.” and “I am from the hushed steps to school.”

Thanks for the review. I do not enjoy reading poetry and wartime experiences. So I will pass reading this book.

This is not what I expected from the title whatsoever! But I am pleasantly surprised. It really shows the author’s talent that she can fit so much emotion and detail into just ten poems. Thanks for the great review!

I've seen the pictures and the news about Syria and it's always heartbreaking to see the victims. I can only imagine the pain they felt. Kudos to the author for sharing this emotional collection of poems.

This review gives me a great sense of what to expect from the book. I can already feel some of the emotions come through without having read much of the book. Great job setting expectations for potential readers.

I will be among the readers who want to expand my horizons! I have never chosen to read a book of poetry but due to your review I am very interested in this one. The poems with a deeper meaning have always stumped me so I definitely need to expand my horizons! Thank you for the excellent review!

Thank you for such a beautifully written review. As I read the sample, I felt incredible sadness remembering friends describing devastating experiences in their homeland. I wondered how anyone could describe the beauty and emotional impact of Rana Bitar’s few simple words. This amazing review accomplished exactly that.

I sampled this book prior to reading your review. I agree with you that the seemingly obvious meaning of the poems often provoke a deeper thought process. I am so excited that I was able to download this for free today.
