It is a tale simply told in reverse about a man named Chuck Krantz. To say anymore would spoil it. Suffice it to say, Each of us contains multitudes and we should appreciate the Lives we had/have. It is hard to live at certain times but always we need to remind each other we are in this together.
Mike Flanagan adapts from the novella of the same name with tenderness yet never
forces the story's intent. He allows the film to "breathe"- something Clint Eastwood has always said.
If the director and the actors have done their homework, the audience can draw whatever conclusions they can. Hiddleston is perfectly cast as the lead but his character is played by 3 other actors whom all blend to create Chuck at varying stages of his Life. Hiddleston has always been an amazing dancer and doesn't disappoint here. Mia Sara, Molly C Quinn Karen Gilliam show up in secondary rolls and are perfect. Other familiar faces include Mark Hammil as Granpa; Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jacob Tremblay, Carl Lumbly, Matthew Lilliard.
Some may see this film as too saccharine. Sometimes we need a little sweetness and a little kindness.
