The issues in this book are of a serious nature, and I do see how these things may be 'draining' to read about but I am interested in the author's perspectives.

The book sounds emotionally heavy. I appreciate the way the author has used his personal struggle to give hope to those going through difficult times.
Feeling upset sometimes may be unavoidable, but acting distressed is always optional.

It's amazing that the author is able to find the courage to start writing this book, especially when difficult issues like child sexual abuse and PTSD are discussed. It seems like an inspiring and enlightening read, which will be made better with more rigorous editing. Thanks for the review!

I liked that she included some discussion of cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques such as cognitive distortions, but I work in mental health and substance abuse and I've never heard any cases of alcoholism being "cured," only managed or in remission. I'm automatically skeptical of anyone that claims to have been cured of alcoholism, similar to the way I'd be skeptical of anyone that claims they were cured of diabetes or asthma. A lot of the information seems way too new-age, like having a spiritual guide. I prefer my information to be based in fact and evidence, rather than one person's experience. I found it dubious that she blamed the entire family's alcoholism on her father's experience in WWII era Germany, as many people went through that era and did not develop alcoholism.

This is a book I'll definitely be passing on, but thank you for taking the time to review this book.

As someone who has dealt with some of the same problems in life, I think that this book sounds like a good read. I am interested in reading about her journey and how she moved through the problems she has had in life to make her life better.

It sounds good but really I am not sure I could read it as it's not my type of book. Thanks for the review though!

Based on the review of the book this is not something that I would enjoy reading. I dislike reading books with any kind of abuse. I also don't enjoy reading about loss, addiction, or PTSD. I don't like to read about such heavy subjects so I will pass on reading this story.

I hope this book has helped the author heal and find some clarity in her life. It sounds as if she has done a lot of soul searching! I'm not in the market for a heavy emotional read, so I will have to pass, but I am sure many could find this book helpful!

This is a good informative book but I feel discouraged reading it because of the errors and some discussions considering it is a lengthy book. Thanks for the review.

I like that the author is eventually able to move from a space of abuse to one of openness, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Thanks for the insightful review.

This would be a good book to those who may be suffering from the conditions mentioned. I love memoirs but I will have to skip this one. Great review though.

How so often safe harbor has been used as a metaphor for healing and escape from a dreadful situation. The author of this book must really be relieved to have gone past her ordeal, and hoped everything set straight on the right path. She has my prayers. Thanks for this splendid review.

The addition of notes from a diary sounds like an interesting read. Overall, I’m not much of a self help reader, so I think I’ll pass on this one. Great review!

I cannot take something like this as this gives me anxiety. Reading this review itself gave me creeps. I might just avoid books like this for my own good. Maybe in future I would be reading books which includes all these hardships like abuse, PTSD, loss, stress etc.

This book sounds long and emotional. However, the review has credibility because it was written by a counselor. Those of us that have experienced PTSD and come out the other side could probably appreciate it. Definitely one I’ll try when in the right mindset.
