I am not into science fiction stories usually but reading the sample first and now your review makes me think I would really enjoy the novel. I am almost sure Delvin has nothing to do with his friend's death and convinced that the actual murderer will take the readers by surprise.

This is a lovely book to read, and I won't mind reading it over again. Delvin quickly gained recognition in the new city he found himself in because of the magic tricks that Borlock thought him.  Princess Jarla is one character I admire in this book because of her toughness and her quickness in making the right decisions. I read this book a little while ago and wasn't a huge fan of the writing. I also found many errors which sound like have been fixed. I think I would've enjoyed my time reading Delvin's story much more had the writing felt a bit more mature. I agree with you that Townsend should've described more physical appearances. Great review!
