The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid was a surprisingly good story. Listed as Young Adult for genre, I can also see it appealing to some adults in addition to teen boys. It can be described as being a tale about alternate universes, but it goes beyond that. It is about altered universes that coincide, but are vastly different.

In addition to being well written, it was also well edited. Only one grammar error image found that slowed down the flow of the story. It can be found on page 4, the last sentence in the 5th paragraph. It reads “and a glowing plant wrapped him round like a diaper of glowing seaweed.” To me that doesn't really make sense as is. Other than that it was a very enjoyable story.

This is a story of two very different worlds, though essentially tied together. The realities of each do not qualify as mirror images, but the opposite lifestyles of each compliment and contrast in amazing ways. In both worlds, the characters have the same names, but how they live and the forms they can take is amazing. Yet it is to be remembered, that the contrasts in how they live in each world or universe aren't similar, what happens in one world can effect the same person in the other. The imagery created by the words, describing what things look like in each world and how they live as opposed to the other, makes for incredible pictures in your mind.

Dew Pellucid has created contrasting worlds in The Crystilleries of Echoland that pull you in and right along with what happens to the characters as it is happening to them. You are on their adventure, experiencing everything as they do.

I would give Crystilleries of Echoland a rating of 4 out of four stars, for its creativity and imagination. Its story takes you through two realities and how each effects the other and how both worlds have to work together in one of the altered universes to save both. In some ways, the creation of the lifestyles and sayings in each world, remind me a bit of Tolkien's creation of lands, languages and beings. While it is loosely, there are some comparisons. If I had to choose one thing I was disappointed by, it would be the ending. It felt like there were a few loose ends regarding a few of the characters. Of course that could also be used to set up for a sequel to this story.
