Do you ever wonder why you are so aggressive, timid or sad? It is all in the mind. You have to reach into the mind before answers can be found. The book, The Mind is the Map by Christina Reeves and Dimitros Spanos is the key to unlocking answers from your mind.
This book is a self-help book on controlling one's emotions and understanding one's psychology. It is arranged into twelve detailed chapters. Beautiful illustrations and wise quotes are found before each chapter. I particularly like the quote by Paramahansa Yogananda who wrote, "Happiness blooms naturally in the hearts of those who are inwardly free. It flows spontaneously, like a mountain spring after April showers, in minds that are contented with simple living." Charts were also present to highlight new points. When I read through the description, I thought that I would have to contend with a lot of professional grammar. However, it was surprising to discover that the language is simple enough to comprehend. The narrative is in the form of a dialogue between Christina Reeves and Dimitrios Spanos. It added more charm to the book and made the subject under discussion easy to understand.
The opening chapter deals with mind problems which are becoming increasingly common. Some people have reached their limit of what they see with their rational mind, while others are hindered by fear and negative habit patterns. The chapter goes on to explain how emotional intelligence can transform one into a personality capable of holding a loving space and becoming an active listener for others to express their wisdom and truth.
Subsequent chapters explain why we do the things we do, the effects of prejudging others, how we arrived at who we are, how the brain is connected to our personality, how we came to acquire our individual "writing on the wall" and how it affects our lives, and so on. Practical solutions on how to achieve a better personality are found throughout the book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely. It was eye-opening to learn new and interesting things concerning the way my mind works. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was professionally edited and has a lot to offer. This book can be of help to all who desire to understand their mind better inorder to have healthier relationships with others. But it should not be used as a replacement for the services of a medical professional in serious cases.

It is indeed interesting. There are some references, but there are more of Christina Reeves personal experiences which really helped me understand the points under discussion. The mind in this context encompasses the brain and much more. In fact, there was a detailed analysis of the brain and its relationship with behaviour. So we can say a sort of 'spiritual mind' is intended without the religious aspect.Janelle Juncos wrote: ↑13 Apr 2019, 07:10 This book sounds interesting. Would you say that the authors referenced studies frequently? Also, when they're discussing "the mind" is it understood to be about the brain or is it more about a spiritual sense of "mind?" Thanks!

kandscreeley wrote: ↑13 Apr 2019, 18:11 I probably could learn more about myself and controlling my mind. However, I'm not really interested in another self-help book at the moment. I'm glad there was wisdom here for you, and I will remember this in case I decide to read it later.
Good to know that you might read it because I'm sure its not going to be a waste of your time. Thanks

I think it is important that you mention the book is not intended to replace medical help if necessary! Not everyone is able to easily follow the advice in a self-help book if they suffer from certain mental health issues.
