Terror attacks can be terrifying moments. Even stronger nations like the United States are still grappling with the threats of terror attack. The Date Farm by Jack Winnick highlights the effect of terror attacks on the nation. A terror gang has just outwitted the American intelligence and launches an attack on a mall where people are on a summer vacation. The attack is well orchestrated and results into many casualties. A second attack is launched weeks later, this time on the banks in New York City. This time, the main target is the nations gold. The mission is a success and the terror gang gets away with the gold. Lara and Uri, senior intelligence officers are called upon by the state to go after this gang. They are to plot their downfall and to recapture the nation’s stolen gold.

In this book, the author shows the plight of terror in the society. For example, many lives are lost in the attacks, there are many casualties, the US economy is put into jeopardy and diplomatic relations are interfered with. The intelligence and the police are constantly on toes to mitigate the effects of the attack. As for Lara and Uri, they must recover the stolen gold and bring down the gang. By highlighting the plight of the terror attacks, the author shows the measures states needs to put in place to counter the terror attacks. That was educative.

What stood out in this novel is the use of suspense. There is an intriguing suspense in nearly all the chapters of this book. The suspense made the novel remarkable, interesting and eye catching. For example, there is suspense following the attacks on the mall where people are on vacation and the attacks on the banks. Additionally, there is suspense when Lara and Uri leaves to go in search of the terror gang. The suspense increased my desire to learn about the fate of their mission.

I really loved the manner in which the author blends humour and the subject matter of the novel. The author captures the subject matter so flawlessly and mixes a little humour therein. The humour broke the monotony of the narration. However, it is not aggravated to make a person lose concentration on the main themes in the novel.

I recommend this book to all persons interested in adventure novels. It is full of adventures especially in tracking down the terror groups . Persons with no interest in adventure fictions may try other novels. There is nothing I disliked in this novel and I rate it at 4 out of 4 stars. It creates awareness on the methods used by terror gangs to orchestrate the attacks. It was thus educative. This book is exceptionally well edited.
