The Crystilleries of Echoland Review

Imagine that when a person is born, there exists two versions: a sound and an echo. The sound is a physical being, while an echo is see through, like a mirror image. The echo floats away to a place called Echoland while the sound remains. For several years, sound children have been disappearing. Only one child has ever returned, named Will, with a wolf and falcon in tow. Ten years later, his family is attacked by fate sealers - terrible monsters used to murder sounds. After gaining consciousness, he learns that his wolf and falcon were dead sounds that were possessed by echoes. They inform him that his echo is an important person in Echoland, and that his life is in danger. Together with his echo, he hides from the fate sealers and works to restore peace to Echoland.

The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid uses beautiful language to paint an array of visuals. The use of metaphors is seamlessly added to depict a world full of magic and wonder. Images relating to certain chapters are also integrated, creating a truly immersive experience. Another minor detail I enjoyed was that each chapter was named based on its content, providing the reader with a glimpse of what to expect.

The beautiful use of language along with a complex setting did include a learning curve, often causing me to re-read several paragraphs to fully understand the content. Once invested in the story, however, this obstacle was easily overcome.

The book was incredibly well written, used fantastic imagery, unique grammar and captivating story, earning 4 out of 4 stars. No profound language or explicit content was present, creating a great reading experience for all audiences. This book was a real page turner, and a must read for all book lovers, especially those who enjoy Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland.
