Religious poetry?

Post by GiaRushing »

I have become utterly obsessed with the 19th century poet William Blake, and have a new found love for religious poetry. I am new to the forum and I wanted to know if they're any William Blake lovers like myself,if so what's your favorite poem? Also, if anyone writes their own poetry centered around religion and wouldn't mind sharing that would be great ! :D Can't wait to hear from everyone!

OUR JOB

I spoke to the Lord late one night
He kindly informed me the end is in sight
The fields are full with grain to cut
Grab your bible and get out of your rut
It’s the end of the program, the world is ripe
Sharpen your sickle and use it right
You’ve nothing to lose and so much to gain
You’re not alone lots are thinking the same
I’ve wasted my time in an unfruitful life
Struggling to make it filled with strife
So many distractions got in the way
That was their purpose to cause a delay
Doing God’s business is for what we are called
You wasted His time, and that isn’t all
So many souls that you could have saved
And sent them to heaven instead of the grave
But now you are thinking, you’ve got the idea
The job is before us His message is clear
Get off your duff and save some souls
Better hurry up you’re getting old.

I wish to thank you Lord
For allowing me to be a mother
I accept these precious gifts you’ve bestowed upon me wholeheartedly
I pledge to raise these miracles to reflect your light

if you are intereested in religious poetry - why not go back to the early modern days and read a bit of confessional poetry or sonnets? John Donne for example!

Hi everyone, I love reading and writing poetry, here is my most recent religious poem. Let me know what you think or how you feel about it. Its not for sale, :) just want to share
I Love You....Still
When the sun rises I will love you
And when the sun descends I will love you still
When your re-joining has to offer you solace because all you can see is the destruction born of hate I will love you
And when your re-joining is complete, solace has no case, because now you understand the perfect symmetry between time and space and I will love you still
When you cry your most ardent tear, caused by your perception of the illusion of fear, I will love you
And when your shift affords you to cry tears of joy from your heart; and you are bearing the grace of knowing that of everything you are apart, I will love you still
When you stop in mid-flight to savor my breath which is present in the wind, I will love you
And when your flight resumes, the passion of your purpose mandating it so, taking you to heights that even the wind won't go, I will love you still
When you can touch a man, a woman, a child, an animal, whatever form nature expresses through
And feel only the surface covering communicating back to you, I will love you
And when you can touch a man, a woman, a child, an animal, indeed nature in all its splendid array
And realize that only One Life Form is here at play, I will love you still
When the energy within you explodes, encased in the wisdom of youth, I will love you
And when maturity allows for truth to pen your life and stages, and you with confidence and elegance cite
the 'Wisdom of the Ages', I will love you still
When your Spirit is reconciled and when your many are seen as one, this is a result of your journey well done
When you hold a knowing that there is no difference between a dollar and a dime, than your focus is total
And you are effortlessly living in a moment and in eternity at the same time
At this level of Infinity you are Unconditionally free, free to love your-Self, free to just Be
Your spiritual eye captures my face and your Higher Being intuits my Will
Finally you love me entirely, and I, I love you.....still

Woah this is really beautiful Empress. I like charlylyx's too. It's funny I came upon this topic and have a notebook besides me open to a page where I colored a poem of mine thinking of William Blake.
I am charged by the sun
The cosmic creator one
Flowing through me every moment
Every day
It's joyous, the Infinite
Extending love to those around
Healing energy radiating from my hara to my toes and crown
Emanating light, it vibrates at light speed
Shattering boundaries, the heart opens
Indeed, indeed
