Review by Maria Kozomara -- The Altitude Journals
The Altitude Journals by David J Mauro, A Seven-Year Journey from the Lowest Point in My Life to the Highest Point on Earth, is one incredible life story about a 44 years old man, who was under the impression that his world had collapsed, he lost faith in himself and did not see the future. However, over time, he learned that everything was happening for a reason, and also when one door closed the other opened. His life reversed as he could not imagine. After his divorce, David Mauro lost self-confidence, he was forced to start from the beginning, and as he was gathering strength to do so, he suddenly received an incredible offer. He got an invitation to climb to the top of Denali, the highest peak in North America.
Although he hasn't been mountaineer, it is fascinating how this moment changed our writer’s life and how much energy awakened in him. He accepted the challenge and in all ways prepared for the endeavor, never dreaming that he would someday visit the seven highest peaks on the Earth. He studied everything necessary for one such undertaking, preparing himself mentally and physically, and this was only the beginning. How our protagonist survived the effects of a failed marriage? How he found love again? How he overcame all difficulties and reached the peak of his own life? All of that can be read with pleasure in this book.
The unique and magnificent journey described by Mauro in the reader evokes a storm of emotions and experiences while giving the impression that the reader is on a journey with him. The book is easy to read and the reader eagerly awaits every next page. It is divided into chapters, and each conquered top represents one chapter. It is very nicely illustrated with photographs that speak more than a thousand words.
The writer shared in detail with his readers his disappointments, dreams, fears, excitement, and everything that follows his life story. Every conquered mountain top on the other continent brought him a new experience, lessons and unforgettable memories, which he selflessly and gratefully shared with Lin, the love of his life. Eventually, he realized that his life had changed when he least hoped and that he should be grateful for everything because everything had its reasons. He found his peace, realized his dreams, and enjoyed mutual, selfless love.
The Altitude Journals is a wonderful experience even for professional climbers, fans of extreme sports and challenges, but also for us ordinary mortals who can only dream about such ventures. It is also very instructive for people who feel sad and unhappy after some collapse in their lives. Also, the book gives the reader the feeling that he has visited all these places, and when he finished reading feels as he has toured the entire planet. I have not noticed any grammatical errors, and as far as profanity is concerned, it can be seen in everyday speech, similar to slang. I'm giving the book 4 out of 4 stars and can't wait for the next adventure.
