Review by Zarahh13 -- Veil of Secrecy
Margaret Franceschini with her book ‘Veil of Secrecy’ took us on a journey full of emotions. Sad and happy emotions. Even after finishing this book, it is difficult not to think about this interesting story or even dream about it.
The main character in this story is Marina Cynthia Martin. She was born in The Fold, a amazing looking place where pregnant, young women can find support from other young women’s or the director in this hard time for them and even continue their education. During the pregnancy at The Fold every girl needs to sign a consent for adoption because they can not keep their baby’s in The Fold.
That’s how we learn about the past of Marina mother. Marinas Mother, Julia found out that she is in age of 16 pregnant. She thought that her beloved one will support her but unfortunately she realized that he took advantage of her. That how she ended giving a birth in The Fold and gave her child Marina to the adoption.
Unfortunately at the age of 16 Marina is in the same situation as her mother. She gave the birth to beautiful girl named Seton. And as well as her mother she had to give her child to adoption.
Julia and Marina can not forged about the pain. They believe that one day they will meet their children and they will have the chance to explain them why they decided to give their children to the adoption.
This amazing story has a lot of twists, turns and unexpected situations. We connect in pain with the main character. And when we finally think that our main character found peace after all dramatic situation in her live there comes another unexpected situation. Reading ‘Veil of Secrecy’ we readers can never predict what will happen next. Even if we think we already know everything.
Margaret Franceschini is delivering in her book a very important message. She describes a problem of a million young women’s because sometimes a young women’s fall in love and unfortunately somebody is taking advantage of her. That leaves a mark on your soul. And when the young women’s have to give their children to the adoption the pain want leave them. They will feel it every day. That is how our main character and her mother feel, a lot of pain and that is why we readers take this important message from the author to ours heart.
I would definitely give this book 4/4 stars. I loved the way the author wrote the book. This book is beautiful written and because of that I as a reader could connect with the main character and feel sadness when she was sad or fell happiness when she was happy. I also appreciate that this book delivers us a very important message. Nowadays we as populations do not speak openly about such a problems and we can not connect with young women’s pain after being abused and after they were forced to give their children to the adoption. After this book I fell connect to all this women’s that went through such a pain.
