Review by Artedup -- Terror In Manila
Terror in Manila by Frank Q. Aurillo, J
The story begins as one of the main characters contemplates the details about the mission that is about to unfold. The author makes the beginning of this story very catching and it makes the reader curious about the unfolding of the story from the first page. I have to admit that I was not able to put this book down until I got to the last page. The story is filled with excitement as one is eager to know what is going to happen next.
The story is about a scientist named Nick and his fellow scientist Francis. They are citizens of the Philippines. They are disturbed by the current political and economic state of their country and they decide to do something about it. Both of them are intelligent and they endeavor to use their scientific knowledge to help their country. They come up with a time machine and pick a particularly important event in history that if prevented could alter the course of their country’s history. They decide to assassinate an American official who would be at a rally in the 1940’s in the hopes that after this America would grant deny the Philippines their independence and keep them as their colony.
They argue that if America had denied them their independence they would have been at a better place as a country both economically and in terms of education. Nick volunteers to go into the past to assassinate this official and whether he succeeds or not one would have to read the book to find out.
The flow of the story is really good and one can follow the story from the beginning to the end. The author creatively brings the story to life and manages to catch the attention of the reader throughout the story. I also like how the author explains the physics behind time travel and how everything works to transport one back in time. This gives the reader the feeling that they are part of the story and they understand every step. The book also has some important historical facts and I applaud the author for their accuracy. The story is very well executed.
The story also contains some upsetting themes such as rape and colonialism in which the author sometimes goes into details about. If a person will find these themes horrifying and unbearable then they should not pick up this book. However both scientists exude a great amount of patriotism as they are willing to risk their lives to save the lives of many.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it seems to be professionally edited as I only found very few mistakes. The story is also creative and interesting and takes the reader on an indulging journey. It also has a good flow. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick easy interesting read and something that will leave them contemplating about life.
