Official Review: Chronicle of Jongleur, The Storyteller

Post by Bananacat »

[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of "CHRONICLE OF JONGLEUR, THE STORYTELLER" by SANDRA GALLIMORE.]

This is a fiction novel in the historical genre, set during the middle of the 13th century when people where being persecuted for their religion. The religious group in the story is the Cathar’s and the story follows the lives of a family through the hardships that they face as they try to stay alive in a world where their religious views are not appreciated.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. I think the author has taken a period in history that many people do not know much about and has presented it to the reader so they can understand a bit more about the time in our history.

As the author has decided that the story is to be told from the view point of a young lad as he tells the history of his family, it means that the reader is sympathetic towards them and other people in their position. This allows the reader to read about a time in our history that we do not generally like taking about as we feel that it should be ignored. Also because the author has written the book from a young lad’s view then readers feel like they should read the book to find out what is going to happen rather than if it was being told from an adult’s view point then some readers might get half way through and decide that they don’t want to continue reading this novel.

Even though I really enjoyed reading this novel I feel that it was only because of my fascination with history that I was able to understand the thread of the story. However it might be that some other reader who is not as fascinated with history as me is still able to understand they thread of this novel. Because of my love of history I guessed how the story would end however this did not spoil my enjoyment of the novel atoll. Although other readers who are not as interested in history as me, I feel should not be able to guess the end of this novel so they would keep reading till the end so they can find out what will happen.

I would give this novel 4 stars out of 4. I was hooked in this novel from the beginning and would still recommend this book to anyone who asked. I found that I was able to relate to the characters and emphasises with them in the hardships that they faced. The style of writing that the author used, in any other type of novel wouldn’t work but in this novel it is appropriate because of the time setting. I will continue to read further books by this author.

Thank you for the four star review . I am pleased you enjoyed it so much. I value your positive comments and look forward to comments from other readers as this novel is near and dear to my heart. I do have a sequel in the works if this book does well so I am in hopes this review will encourage others to read it.
