Review by Little Muse -- The Date Farm by Jack Winnick
Uri and Lara are in Ohio enjoying their honeymoon before they are notified of another terrorist attack. They have to put everything aside and attend to this urgent matter. This time the action takes place on a date farm. This introduces us to The Date Farm, the fourth installation in the Uri and Lara series by Jack Winnick.
Beverly Hills seems to be the terrorists' favourite spot. They target it again but on this particular terror attack, they bomb the shopping mall. The enemy is swift and after he succeeds in drawing all attention to the mall, he goes ahead to execute his grand plan. He cuts all communication lines and takes hostage the Federal Reserve and the Chase Manhattan bank in New York. No one knows what the terrorists real intentions are but speculations are that they want a treasure from the Federal Reserve. Uri and Lara are called in, forcing them to cut short their honeymoon.
This book has an engaging plot that makes it hard to put down. The story picks up right from the first pages, grasping all your attention and maintaining it till the very end. I loved the teamwork and the consistent character growth. In Devil in False Colors, Uri and Lara had just met after a long time and they were tasked to infiltrate a terrorist organization so that they could learn the activities of the enemy. Here, they are already married and face more danger ahead together.
Some of the characters are well known as they have been retained from the previous novel and of all of them, Sheikh Zainal Abidin fascinated me. I know that he is the leader of the protest but his plans are intelligent and greatly contribute to the suspense in this novel. He is the only one who knows his ultimate mission and no one guesses his intensions, well, apart from the reader. Even Lara and Uri don't know that they are in Sheikh Zainal Abidin's rage.
The action in this novel never cease and the twists and turns are more intense. The author takes us yet on another dangerous adventure with detailed descriptions of the date farm and its activities. We get to see the good, the bad and the ugly and it was really nice to find humane gestures in this danger stricken zone.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The prose is well-written with just the necessary information. Proofreading is at its best, making this book a perfect read. I recommend it to anyone who's has read and enjoyed the previous three books in this series.
