[Following is a volunteer review of "2612 Cherryhill Lane" by Glenn Vo.]
Everything was going perfectly for Jonathan McCalister his senior year of high school. He had a full scholarship to play football, a beautiful girlfriend, an angel little sister and loving family, and just won the football Texas State championship. Jonathan was driving with his little sister in the car to meet his family for dinner when he reached down to answer a text message from his girlfriend. That text message caused an accident that changed Jonathan’s life and killed his little sister.
Several years later after refusing anymore physical therapy and Jonathan’s best friend leaves for another college, Jonathan’s mom hires another assistant for him. Her name is Samantha Reid and she is the most beautiful girl that Jonathan has ever met. Samantha starts to bring Jonathan out of his shell and leads him back to God. As they work together, their feelings for each other grow. Will their love overcome Jonathon’s depression about his legs and Samantha’s feelings about her family? Or will their fears deal a fatal blow to their love?
2612 Cherryhill Lane by Glenn Vo deals with everyone’s self-doubts and God’s plan for each of us. Glenn Vo sums up everything nicely. I enjoyed the way he put it, although, it did make me think of my faults as well. This is a very thought-provoking book and should be read with an open mind. This book can make anyone think about things that they would rather leave in the past. That can be a good thing if the reader is ready to face the past. There were no major errors in the book that took away from the story line.
My favorite part of the book was watching the love grow between Jonathan and Samantha. I also enjoyed how Samantha brought Jonathan out of his shell and Jonathan helped Samantha face her doubts as well. The only part I did not like was a character named Dean. It just seemed for him to play such a big role, he was not well thought out and talked about. Samantha and Jonathan were well developed, even if a few of the other characters were not.
2612 Cherryhill Lane is targeted at Christian women. There are no scenes in the book that would make it unsuitable for teenagers, but I feel many teenagers would not like this book. It is more for women in their twenties or older. Since religion is such a big part of this book that only Christians would like this book or anyone with an open mind. Because there are no errors and the way the characters are written, I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars.
