Review by tanner87cbs -- Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a...
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is a lovely children's book told through the eyes of Inca, the head of Inca & Company. This is the seventh book in the series; however, you do not need to read them in order. They can be read as stand-alone children's novels. There was only one quick reference to a prior installment of the series within this particular story.
Inca, along with her family and friends are away from their London home on holiday in Sri Lanka. There is a detailed character guide at the beginning of the book which introduces the cast. However, the main stars in this fun title are Inca, and primarily her brother Fromage. These detectives are kicking back and relaxing on the sandy beaches. But not for long! A mystery soon unfolds that requires the services of Inca & Company. These friends must band together to recover a valuable sword and bag of gold stolen from the museum!
This book was a joy to read. I am hoping to read this to my daughter soon, or better have her read it to me. She is seven, which is probably the earliest audience I would recommend to read this book. Age limit? Maybe not. I rather enjoyed it! My favorite part of the book was the illustrations. They are amazing!
There is nothing that I did not enjoy about this book. The only comment I have is that the vocabulary was more extensive than I would have expected for a children's title. I understand to a point to broaden the vocabulary of youngsters. Especially on digital platforms, when they can highlight the word and get the meaning and pronunciation in just one click or tap. Case in point, here is an exert from location 280 on the digital Kindle version of the book. "So early this morning, we got up to see the day burst into life as the sun rose spilling across the rich, emerald expanse of vibrant tea bushes."
In conclusion, I enjoyed the book and rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I highly recommend this to parents to read to their children, as well as emerging young readers, to get the chance to read some excellent literature that will captivate them. The book was professionally edited, as I did not find any spelling or grammatical errors. I want to add again how excellent I think the illustrations are! They are truly amazing! I cannot wait to share this story with my daughter. She is going to love it!
