Dustlands Series *spoilers by Moira Young

Post by letsread_123 »

First book : Blood Red Road
Second Book: Rebel Heart
Third Book: Raging Star (coming out next April 2014)

Ok so I have read the first two books and might I say they were heated! These books are written in a...well...a more sound oriented way. It is not the normal grammatically correct, spelling perfect types of book(s), they are more how you read them. For example, here are two sentences from the first book BLOOD RED ROAD: Ever since I found him fell outta the nest an his ma nowhere to be seen. Pa warn't too happy to see me bring a crow babby home. but once you get used to it, the books are great! So lets talk about one book at a time. So BLOOD RED ROAD...hmm where do i start ^^ Well when I first opened the book i was a bit taken aback by how the author wrote it, but I thought that it was very clever and in the end i liked the way she decided to go out of the norm and write well sound orientated as I will now call it ^^ The beginning was a bit slow for me, maybe I'm just the type of person that needs immediate action from the beginning? But there were times when I thought "really? can't I just skip this part" and times when I thought Saba and Jack should just KISS! I mean when they kissed at the end I thought i was going to die of happiness, and of course sometimes Saba's stubbornness was irritating but I think her being the way she is, the kiss at the end was more of an OMG moment :) This I assure you is not just some girl meets boy and fall in love types of books...well it is but the action that is there i=just escalates it. But seriously, going back to the romantic stuff for a moment, there were SOO many places where I just wished Saba would just have some ROMANTIC gestures with Jack. So now that we have that out of the way, let's talk about the "time" in the book. In my opinion, in a lot of the parts, it was just BOOM BOOM BOOM, like everything was really fast, yet we see that Saba was in Hopetown for a month, which makes you think....did she try to escape in that time? and isn't it so convenient how the author gives Saba the exact information she needs in a character that dies off almost immediately. There were a lot of side characters I think that they just died very quickly, so to the readers, the characters probably didn't make that big of an impact. Now to me, Mercy was actually a very important character but she only makes an appearance at the beginning but it's her that evidently leads Saba to Jack, and she's nice and everything which makes me just really like her :D but I think there are people who think that Mercy might be worrying about Emmi because she didn't know that she was running away to Saba, but Mercy is spiritual and wise and everything so I do not think that she would've been that surprised. Now off to the Free Hawks, don't you just LOVE them? Maev, Ash, Epona (and others, that I might've forgot to list><) IT WAS SO SAD HOW EPONA HAD TO DIE, in my opinion I don't think that was the ONLY option. I mean I'm sure there were other ways to save Epona but i think we all know that she would have to be captured by the Tonton first and then the whole journey to get her back would be just a turn off because it would be basically the same thing (maybe) but it would just be the same events (kind of) happening over and over again. To tie in REBEL HEART here, I mean Saba went to go find Jack and I know that there were more times in this book where I was seriously wondering if Saba would even MEET Jack in that book, or if it was just a book of her looking for him (which if it was I would probably have not finished the book, or even started, because come on the same repetition of looking for someone gets kinda boring). I think this book actually breaks down human nature a little bit, with all Ms.Young's characters having strong personalities, yet that confusing side :D OMG DEMALO, i thought he was really older than Saba but in the second book...i guess he wasn't THAT old. The way I imagined these people, I dont know why but whenever they said someone was bald I kept imagining ears that stuck out kind of :P I dont know why but yea ^^ this is getting long so I'll post again for the second book :)

P.S i almost forgot to write this but when Saba went to go save Jack I thought O YEAH ROMANCE IS GOING TO START!, so I guess if Saba wasn't as stubborn as she was she wouldn't have stuck around in the burning cellblock to look for Jack ^^ o and Saba loving her brother so much, that was admirable I mean there are A LOT of siblings in the world that ALWAYS fights with their siblings...no exception XD
First when Saba was just thinking about Lugh I was like okay i get it but her being mean to Emmi was sad because you could see that Emmi loved Saba but she couldn't show it because she knew that Saba didn't feel the same way and then when saving Lugh started interfering with her and Jack I thought, you can have like one second to yourself to like cuddle with Jack or something :P buuut it wouldn't have been appropriate considering the tight time frame she was in...but still...you can't blame a romantic for wanting romance ^^
