Racism is a global issue that many countries across the world encounter every now and then. Mixed blessings by J. M. Muse tackles racism and its impacts on the society. The two main characters are Kimberly Solberg and Kublai Khan. Kimberly Solberg is a biracial with her father a Mexican while her mother a Jewish. Kimberly lives with her mother at San Fernando Valley. She goes to Mexico to visit her father Hector Sanchez who is not only a reporter but also an in-law of the powerful Rodriguez family. She wants to be loved with someone who will accept her irregardless of her being biracial and hence be happy. Being biracial she has been mistreated so much. Kublai Khan comes up with a strategy known as mocha effect that will help in creating a new race in America. Hung Suk the leader of World Energy Church is in support of khan's strategy.

I loved how the author created awareness on racism. I was able to understand racism and the issues that comes with it. The challenges facing those from mixed races are well elaborated by the author. For instance Kimberly being called names, looked down upon and even mishandled for being a biracial. Star Mathews being Japanese with a black father suffered too. When she was to be the queen during the beauty pageant competition, her position was given to another contestant. There is vivid descriptions throughout the book plus the use of dialogue that helps the reader get the real picture of what racism is.

I dint like the fact that many people suffered the consequences of being biracial. Kim was insulted and even mistreated for being a biracial. This made her wonder where she was belonged. I was really touched by how badly she was being treated. It hurts so much to be born by parents who are from different races and the society takes you for granted. Star Mathews and other people of mixed race were also affected negatively. For a moment I asked myself what was wrong with the the people in the society which made them have such hearts of hatred toward individuals of mixed races.

Mixed blessings is such an educative and informative book about racism. J. M. Muse did a great job by creating awareness on what racism is and the challenges that it poses on people who are affected by it. The errors I came across did not deter me from enjoying my reading. I therefore give this book a 4 out of 4 stars . It was indeed professionally edited.

The author well wrote this book. With the world as a whole having issues that come up as a result of racism, every other person would love to read this amazing book. I recommend this book to adults who are interested in learning more about racism. It is not suitable to children as there are use of profanities and a bit of sexual content.
