In The Dark Web Murders, we explore a series of violent murders that take place in Northern Ireland, and the respective investigation lead by Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his team.

The story follows a serial killer known as Neimen, as he calls himself in a blog he writes describing the homicides and crimes, explaining the details, along with quite philosophical messages about them. This blog is of course hidden in the Dark Web and found almost by accident by Sheehan's Partner.

Although I'm not an expert in mystery novels, I have read a few, and I've always thought that the genre tends to fall in a sort of predictable path, and therefore, loses its intention. The Dark Web Murders is clearly not the case. The book keeps a mysterious vibe all along. Even when the reader starts to catch up with some details and even the most impressive (and sometimes quite unexpected) secrets, there is always still much to get revealed and the expectative and the emotion don't get lost in the way. As the doubts and surprises lead us to the end, we also experience very tense moments that don't allow the reader to close the book, or even to breathe.

On top of that, we get an interesting view on our villain when reading their blogs, which I have to say are a little more complex to read than the rest of the text, but give us a unique insight in a killer's head, while having a couple of philosophical moral ideas deserving some thinking. It is indeed an amazing and very complete book.

Having a lot of characters, the book may get confusing at times with who is who and who did what. However, the author kindly offers a glossary with handy terms, acronyms, and brief descriptions of the characters, that can be useful at times, although after some chapters it becomes mostly unnecessary.

I rate this book without any doubt with four out of four stars. The writing style is very comfortable and the characters are all well developed. And, as I said before, it is an outstanding mystery book. Being the first time I've ever read a book written by Brian O'Hare, I am pleased I found the author and look forward to reading more.

For all of you who like a good old police-based-mystery and are tired of disappointment, and even for casual readers who might fancy a short but thrilling story, I highly recommend this title.
