Born with the spirit of Brikkir, Amara has been gifted with unimaginable power. Ever since childhood she's been able to manipulate and conjure ice, an ability which many see as a blessing, to her it's more of a curse. She often loses control of her power whenever things don't go her way and those around her pay the price, as a result many are afraid of her except one; her beloved sister Katja, the one person who is able to keep her in check whenever she loses control. With Katja by her side, Amara knows that good will always prevail over the evil that is lurking inside her.

Twenty six years down the line and we find Katja waking up in an unknown land with absolutely no memory of her life. She sets out to pick up the missing pieces and solve this mystery, to her surprise, she discovers that she's actually the princess of Hale and that her sister has grown up to become the wicked and evil ice queen or as many like to call her Lady Snow. As the story unfolds, it is clear that not all is as it seems; did Amara really do all the things she's being accused of? Or is there more to this story than what meets the eye.

Awakening by Tayma Tameem is a fantasy novel based on probably the most powerful thing in this world; love, the love for parents, love for one's kingdom and most importantly the love for a sister.

This book was really amazing; it was different, intriguing and enjoyable. I found it to be a quick read, I literally couldn't take my eyes off it until I was done. I haven't read a lot of magical realism, but after reading this book, it's something I definitely have to look more into.

This novel is unlike any other that I've read, for me much of the enjoyment I get from a book depends on the characters and from page one, the characters drew me in. I loved the author's portrayal of the characters, through them I was able to feel their hope, fears, uncertainties and love. It gave me a little taste of what life would be like if I had a sister.

The plot is also not complicated, a fact which I commend since I was easily able to follow the storyline and the twists and mysteries had me completely immersed in the book.

Love and war seem to be the main aspect of this novel and though most of us haven't experienced the latter, it's safe to say that all of us have loved and I believe that this book is gives us a little bit of insight on love for family and the loyalty that comes with it and this is what I loved most about the book.

I absolutely loved this novel and so I think it deserved nothing but a 4 out of 4 star rating. The story was wonderful and it's editing was flawless. This book is perfect for those who enjoy magical realism, especially teenagers and young adults as I feel that a younger audience will not have the patience to finish the entire book as the plot is not fast moving.

Amara and katja sisterhood was the reason why she was able to control the evil inside her. Family makes everything better ,it's helps us became better version of ourselves. Taming our inner monsters.

Awakening by Tayma Tameem strikes me as an interesting fantasy novel, portraying how love conquers evil. Indeed love appears to be the underlying theme of the book. This book sounds like a good read for young people and those who enjoy the fantasy genre with an adventure that will capture their attention and imagination. Well done on the review.

I liked how you took note of love and war as the main aspects of the story. I think we all had experienced love and war. War is not only suffered on a grand scale, like between kingdoms. We can experience it within ourselves, just like Amara. Since childhood, she had been fighting inside if her ability has been a blessing or a curse. Thank you for the insightful review.
