Review by Phelicia Gloria -- That Guy What Kill Topsy
Have you ever traveled around the globe, learning about different cultures, business ideas, sports, and autobiographies from various individuals While sitting in the comfort of your room and from just a single book? What an incredible feeling and a thrilling experience having read That Guy What Kill Topsy by Peter Wood Cotterill.
The book is a compilation of short stories, for it covers varied fields for instance in the third story, titled 'A Day Best Not Remembered', a fated story of a grandfather who commits suicide after realizing that he has become a liability to his family then boredom was creeping in his life. Surely this book stimulates different feelings and emotions.
It has seventeen stories of short stories. there was just but one outstanding lesson almost from all of them, that was; patience. This virtue was key in transforming the lives of the characters from low social classes to being persons of high admirable positions in society.
I would honesty testify that I had the privilege to travel the world without a Visa, Moving from Zimbabwe to England and many other places I'm not able to mention all of them, learning about entrepreneurship, cultures, and languages. I also enjoyed varied stories but the last one ' My Life and Times - Pussy Galore', it was quite captivating and it impressed me most. It was full of humor and its key lesson taught was self-acceptance, that we should embrace who we are. Structurally it was like a poem and thus added to its uniqueness.
Generally, the characters in these stories were very few, I could easily relate with each one of them even though they were not well developed from the beginning in that the author did not stress on their introduction. What impressed me most was Mr. Wood's style of writing, he tried to make the reader be part of his poetic rhyme in addition to the periodic use of dialogue I gained an attachment to his stories. Although it was a great book, I come across several grammatical errors that make me believe that the book wasn't professionally edited.
I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those who enjoy reading short stories. It's my pleasure to rate it That Guy What Kill Topsy 3 out of 4 stars . I deducted a single star due to the grammatical errors in it. This book would be great if it underwent another round of editing.
