Review by Serenity2010 -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival...
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy novel that combines a new world with the universe of magic. King Wilhelm Arcolo of Voulhire is a respected and beloved ruler with a secret. There is a fear in Voulhire from all the people in it and several foes that wish for revenge. During Wilhelm's reign, Voulhire has become a prosperous and beautiful place. Anyone who travels to Voulhire may prosper.
The story starts with Galen Bray moving to Voulhire when his uncle leaves him a forge and fortune to build a new life. Galen is determined to make the best out of life and follow in his uncles' footsteps. Along the way, he meets some interesting people. Lord Eldus is appointed by King Wilhelm to oversee Hillport for its' revitalization. Hillport is a city that needs to heal from tragedy from two previous lords. Lord Eldus plans to rebuild Hillport's educational system and develop a flourishing trade market.
The most impressive element of this book is the writing style. The author uses vivid imagery throughout. A reader can easily visualize each city through Tysz detailed descriptions. For example, when Galen arrives in Voulhire, I could see the hills, the colorful houses, and how busy the city is. A reader can imagine with great detail what each character may be like if they were real. The character development for all of the characters is amazing.
There is nothing negative about this book. It is easy to get attached to some of the characters as a reader follows the story. The purity of Galen Bray can make a reader want to be him. The honesty and understanding of Eldus can make a reader hope for Hillsport in the most becoming way. Rowan's comedy is catching and hilarious. It is easy to get lost in this new world and read the story in one sitting. The story is an introductory piece. The plot is not quite clear until you read the whole story.
I give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating. The versatility of the many characters and the great imagery details provides the reader with an excellent story. Also, the book seems professionally edited. There are some profanity and adult scenes throughout the story. These scenes fit perfectly with the overall humor of the story. I recommend this book to young adults and anyone who enjoys fantasy novels.
