We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first part of the We are Voulhire series written by Matthew Tysz. The story revolves around the kingdom of Voulhire, a nation undergoing immense prosperity and growth regarded as the land’s ‘golden age’. However there are mysteries and malices left unanswered in this golden kingdom.

Voulhire is a land of mages, knights, the common as well as the ambitious, the rich as well as the poor, where every person has the opportunity to make a living, prosper and explore the magic and the bustling cities. But beneath all the affluence and the riches, there are dark secrets, an alien world and minds conspiring to disrupt the nation’s peace. The first book hints at many mysteries of the world it is set in and also about other worlds that might be taken up in the subsequent parts which I can’t wait to read!

The book dives into the story of a young boy, Galen Bray, who has immigrated from a war-torn land to Voulhire. Humbled by his past way of life and determined to achieve something great, Galen gradually discovers just how much the nation of Voulhire has to offer. He is accompanied by another character, Rowan who seems to be a constant companion to Galen but what his real motives are seem to be abstruse. The reader also follows the story of the southern coastal town of Hillport which has been torn apart and exploited by its cold blooded lords.

Matthew Tysz pays an immense attention to detail by constructing a map of the kingdom for better clarity of the geographical aspects of the plot. The style of storytelling is commendable and I was absolutely captivated by the flow of language and dialogue as I read through each page. The characters as well as the world that is constructed in this novel feel naturally believable and the reading feels smooth and very comfortable.

The book is a great read for fantasy lovers who admire the endless possibilities such a world can have! It is definitely very well written and professionally edited with no typos. I am so deeply engrossed and fascinated by the world of Voulhire that I want to start reading its sequel right away and so, I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. Please keep in mind that there is some use of profane language and hence I will not be recommending this book to children.
