Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula, by R.F. Kristi, is the eighth part of The Inca Cat Detective Series. It follows the adventures of Inca & Company, a detective company. This group is particular because its members are animals. Inca and her sibling cats are the core part of this association. However, we also follow Terrance, the neighbor's detective dog. In this part of the saga, the group goes to South Korea for a cheese competition. However, they will have to face struggles in there. First, they will have to protect their human mom’s cheese for the competition, and, second, they will start a journey to find a missing cat.

What I like about this book is that it is quick-paced and has illustrations. I found the story easy to follow, so kids will not find it boring. It also repeats some of the main arguments of the plot constantly. While, for adults, this may sound repetitive, for kids this is a very nice strategy. I think it helps to follow the story, reinforce the important parts, and for learning vocabulary. I liked that there are many illustrations throughout the book. Probably, I would have liked them to be of better quality, but I really appreciated them. The sentences and chapters are short. This helps kids to read in small blocks. Finally, I really liked that the book takes the time to explore and explain cultural differences from the Korean culture, without making it boring.

What I dislike about this book is the format. In my Kindle version, everything was formatted as an image, so I could not underline or adjust the size font. I understand this happens because of the general format of the book, so I do not consider this a major problem. This is more a personal like. I also think that the plot could be have been a bit more developed because at some points the tension gets lost. For a children’s book, that is something very important because they might lose attention.

The book was professionally edited, and I think I just found subjective errors. I think this book does not go against anyone’s personal beliefs. I consider it teaches to respect the cultural differences through understanding and friendship. It does not present vulgar, offensive, or profane language, nor does it contain erotic scenes. Because of this, I think it is suited for any audience, including children.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I consider it was short and sweet. Maybe I would give it a 3.5, personally, since I would have liked better formatting. However, this is a very personal opinion. I think the book works very well for children. However, I would recommend this book also for English-language learners. I found it very helpful since it includes brief sentences, new vocabulary, and images. I think it would be a fun approach to learn the language.
