Are you currently feeling stuck in your life? Do you need motivation or an indication of which direction to take? If your answer is yes, then Go Get It by Matthew Hood is the book for you. It is a collection of ten practical and relatable guidelines to help you discover yourself and get your life back on track. Accompanying the guidelines are useful and relevant quotes that add to the weighty nature of the discussions. My favorite is “Children have neither past nor future; they enjoy the present, which very few of us do.” by Jean de la Bruyere. This is in the fourth guideline, which calls us to embrace our inner child by having a positive disposition and exploring our strengths and passions.

The book further discusses taking full responsibility for your situation and recognizing the gravity of your actions and thoughts. Additionally, paying attention to your mental state, feelings, and intuition also helps in recognizing your passions and the things that make you happy or depressed. Other topics include the productive use of time, social media addiction, and our ability to bring ourselves down by constantly comparing our lives to others. These and a lot more are discussed in the book, making it quite worthwhile.

The book has a friendly and direct tone, such that it feels as if you are engaging in a one-on-one conversation with the author. In addition, there are also questions within the read that aim to induce self-reflection and may even lead you to an epiphany or a realization about yourself. The author employs humor and incorporates creative and witty comparisons. For instance, when comparing a zebra’s life to a human and why zebras do not have ulcers.

My favorite aspect of the read is the vibrant red color of the pages and the pictures. The color induces interest and a visual appeal, while the pictures complement the words. For example, the topic of discovering your truth has an accompanying photo of an explorer’s binoculars, emphasizing the discovery bit. I did not find anything to dislike about this guidebook; its arrangement right from the introduction is chronological, and the chapters have a nice flow.

I can confidently state that the book is professionally edited; I found only two grammatical errors. The language employed is intelligible and generally free of profane words, making it suitable for all interested readers. Go Get It does not offer any outrageous solutions and does not promise instant change or that each guide will apply to you. Instead, I feel it seeks to induce a thought in you that will hopefully grow to a conviction and later constructive steps towards steering your life in a better direction. Therefore, I happily award it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone looking for a light yet encouraging read.

Great review! The book sounds very promising. I think many inspirational books may sound cliche or patronizing, so I'm happy to assume this is not one of them. I like that it's smart and witty. I'd definitely be interested to read it.
