We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book in the Voulhire series that’s written by Matthew Tysz. Matthew details the fictional story of the country, Voulhire, and its inhabitants and main characters of this book; Galen, Lord Eldus Alderman, King Wilhelm, and Meldorath.

At the beginning of this tale, Meldorath is introduced as a mage (wizard) who becomes the lord of a small village in Voulhire called Hillport. King Wilhelm – who appointed Meldorath as Lord – decides to banish him because of his unsafe practices with magic. It’s presumed that Meldorath died, but is that true? You’ll have to read for yourself and find out. This book follows six months after Meldorath’s exit as lord and the many questions about whether he died or is hidden from the world. King Wilhelm appoints a well-respected judge named Eldus Alderman as the new lord of Hillport. Eldus was chosen to turn around the village to become more livable so that the town and villagers prosper financially and economically. With the threat of Meldorath's survival being a concern of the townspeople and Lord Eldus and Voulhire's ongoing war with this violent insurgent group called the Riva Rohavi, a lot of evil is lurking in the shadows.

With all of this going on, we are introduced to Galen Bray. Galen is from this war-torn land called the Lands of Princes, where these 4 princes are constantly fighting for sole ownership of their deceased father's land. His reason for going to Voulhire is to escape that drama and to claim the inheritance that his late great uncle left for him. Now living in Magnum Caelum, and staying at his uncle's house, Galen is now embarking on his journey as a blacksmith to continue his uncle's business. This book will have you on the edge of your seat with each turn of a page.

This is only the first book, so all the questions one would want to be answered will be covered throughout the series. I would recommend this story for people who are interested in this story and want to start from the beginning, where characters are being introduced. There is profanity through most of this book and mild sexual talk, so I would recommend this book to individuals 18 years and older. People – like myself – who enjoy those Harry Potter types of books where their the magic world (Caromentis) and the human one (Cosmos), would also like this book. I would not recommend this book to those who will be disgusted by the murder of kids and talks of pedophilia.

I loved so many things about this book. The author included a reference guide of Voulhire in the back of the book with words and phrases from the book that made it easy for me to follow the story. There’s also a map of Voulhire and its cities so that the reader can follow the character's path as they travel. Of course, a book is nothing with good, strong characters like Galen or Lord Eldus, so I like who they are and what they represented in this book. The readers of this book will find the magic aspects of this book incredible because the way magic is described, while used, paints this picture in your head of what's happening.

We are Voulhire is worth the 4 out of 4 rating that I’m giving it. Matthew Tysz crafted a well-written fictional story that is free from any grammar or spelling errors. The flow of the storylines and how they intertwine with one another was executed well. I’m happy to report that there was nothing I disliked about the book. The ending really left me at a halt during an important part of the book, so I am very excited to read book 2 to continue this journey.

I'm glad you enjoyed this one so well. The changing perspectives were a bit too much for me. A lot of people liked this book, though. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thank you for your review! I like the points you mentioned. I also enjoyed this book. Would have been great if the book was longer, but that should be okay. There are more books in the series. If you enjoyed this book, you should totally check out the next one!

So you've been contagiated with the Voulhire-virus too :-)?! It's a great series. I agree with you that the first book leaves many questions unanswered, but keep reading as you will receive answers further on.
