Review by Grace-Essien -- We are Voulhire: The Fires of ...
Galen Bray is now an established blacksmith in Voulhire after the order of his late uncle, from who he inherited a forgery. He however cannot depend on the supply of iron from his town, Magnum Caelum for the success of his business. After learning of the industrialization and availability of iron in Virko, Galen sets off on a journey to the land in the company of Rowan, his supervisor and late uncle’s executor, and Demetrius, his friend.
In Virko, Lord Venden acknowledges Galen’s solicitation as a trade-off for some help which would involve Galen and his companions to try and vanquish an evil spirit. This was a mission that was exacerbated by different powers spreading hysteria in Virko. Will the trio be successful in the execution of this mission? The book will take you through successions of bends and twists in a bid to answer this question.
We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is the second book in the “We are Voulhire” series and a sequel to “We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies”, all written by Matthew Tysz. The book is an erratic sci-fi and fantasy novel that has a touch of events that are relatable to real-life issues such as an ascent of wickedness, a parochial longing for power and religious disparities.
Matthew Tysz worked effectively in bringing the characters of this mystery-filled and exciting plot to life. I appreciate that the scenarios are depicted in a hot and sensational way that keeps the readers suspense-filled and engages their psyches in a way that enables them to get a full handle of the plot. Like its prequel, We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is written in alternate points of views of the characters and this contributed greatly, to the exuberance of the book.
All things considered, the book is interesting and apparently, expertly edited as I found no grammatical or typographical errors. There is nothing that I particularly disliked about the book and so, I give the book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend the book to teenagers and adults that love fantasy and action-filled novels. If you are repulsed by magic and spiritual powers, then this book is not for you. I do not recommend the book to children because of some horrifying scenarios. Before reading this book, I strongly advise that one should read its prequel, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies so as to easily comprehend the story.
