We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy novel based upon a magical and splendorous universe where young Galen Bray inherits a forge from his great uncle whom he has never met and he escapes to visit the kingdom where this forge is. When he leaves the Prince's Islands, which are owned by four power-lust princes and embroiled in a years-long war, he sees the Kingdom of Voulhire at its best and in its golden era, thinking the country is paradise on earth and feeling more at home than ever. Later he will make friends and embark on many adventures getting to know some of the many different towns in Voulhire. In the meantime, dangerous and dark forces stir in every corner trying to take over the benevolent and honest king of Voulhire, King Wilhelm. The most known and feared enemy of the king is Lord Meldorath, a former friend and powerful mage thought to be dead after his arrest.
The book also talks about the ambitions and aspirations of the new Lord of Hillport, a small fishermen's town. The worries and desires of this Lord and his family have a crucial impact on the town they live in and have an important correlation to the events which happen later in the book.

What I liked about this book is that Tysz uses very descriptive language to make it more seamless to immerse into the story and the narration of the story makes me interested in what happened to the character the last chapter was about. I devoured this book and was hooked from the start, and I think what helped me was how the author never introduces a new event or scenario without giving a backstory and information to constitute a whole world where every piece fits together. It's very special how the author gave life to an entire universe in less than 200 pages since books of this type usually need more pages to give the reader an idea of each part of the fictional world.
A very important aspect about the enemies in the book is that they don't just talk about how merciless and cruel they are, but they give a reason why they ended up being like that and they also give the so-called villains a more pitiful and gentle side, and that gave them much more humanity.

I found the writing style of the author confusing sometimes because some words were a little ambiguous and it wasn't professionally edited.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I immensely enjoyed the book from beginning to end and it left me begging to read the next one in the series which I consider very important. I consider myself a very picky reader and this fantasy novel left me very satisfied and gave me space to use imagination to fill in the details the author didn't describe in huge detail. The story also made me connect in a different way to all the people involved in it.

This fantasy novel is extremely recommended to fantasy book readers who like open-ended stories and to anybody willing to experiment with this genre of novels.
