ANIMAL FARM was another book Orwell wrote which deals with a similar plotline, though it deals more with the class struggle issues than 1984 does. I find both books quite refreshing, each unique enough to stand on its own.
I hope this helps you a little, and I would highly recommend reading the Wikipedia article on the book to help you keep the basic plot in your head as you read. Doing that has heped me read through several books in school that I struggled with.
