Let's Help You Self-Help! is a self help book written with twelve key steps in mind. The steps are clearly explained with dictionary definitions and then further demonstrated by the use of Anthony Jacob Braaten's personal analogies and examples that the reader could use in their life. There is also space in this book for personal reflection and anything you want to write as well, turning it into a journal of sorts.
When reading this book, I felt a very personal connection with Anthony Jacob Braaten due to his use of directly addressing each reader with encouraging and uplifting names, (e.g. 'champion'). This made the journey on self help feel a lot more personal as well as feeling as though somebody else is also trying to help you. I also really liked the idea that this was more than just a book by the use of leaving space for someone else to write. It also explicitly states at the begging that the space and book should be used as you please. Therefore if someone with anxiety is using this book they feel that they can use it as they please.
The personal connection you feel with the author is later supported by the fact that he left some places where you could contact him if you wanted. I would also suggest that maybe he left some other numbers that people could call if they need more professional help than he can offer as this book is heavily to do with mental health. However, other than that small criticism I cannot think of any negative feedback.
Because of this, I would rate this book four out of four stars due to the fact that this is one of the best self help books that I have read. I think that Anthony Jacob Braaten successfully managed to connect with his audience, especially for him being a new first time author and he successfully got across his message in an array of ways. I liked how he added in inspirational quotes from famous people as well as some interesting facts to leave you thinking about as well as cheering you up.
I would recommend this book for the wide majority of the public, even those that don't suffer with mental health issues, as I think that this books and the reflection it provides helps you understand a deeper level of yourself and generally being positive in day to day life. I also think that this book would be perfect for someone going through something as it would help navigate them through their life whilst they are struggling. In general I believe that this book would be perfect for someone actively in recovery and who is willing and open to giving his advice a go and taking what he is saying on board.
