Matthew Tysz’s book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first in the series that will contain nine books. This novel belongs to the Young Adult genre and is fascinating in every aspect possible. The book quenches the thirst of a reader looking for the perfect fantasy. It also boasts of a magical modernity and leaves you awestruck. The story shifts between two protagonists, one told through the voice of the narrator and the other is seen through a third person point of view. Although the book is shorter than one expects it to be, the story is massive in its build, depiction and the characters.
There is not one instance in the book that cannot be pictured. The characters constantly try to navigate and find a pathway between two utterly different worlds. The story line presents itself to the reader in the form of a movie and the reader becomes one with the characters as they walk through the roads of Voulhire. Tysz has presented the city of Voulhire in a beautiful manner, making the readers lose track of time. The book is exceptionally well edited. As a reader, you will find yourself asking for more. The story is conversational, in that it speaks to the reader. This aspect of the novel makes it exciting and fun to read and hits home for the audience. The protagonist, Galen Bray, is seen constantly trying to convince the reader of his place in Voulhire and explain why he does what he does. This builds suspense and serves as a yet another point in the favor of the book.
What the book lacks in speed, it makes up for in its plot. Though some parts of the book were a bit slow, the only flaw with the book is that it is too short for such an amazing story. Hopefully, the remaining books to come in this series will provide the readers with detailed back-stories of some characters.
Without a shadow of a doubt, I rate this book four out of four stars for the way it drags the readers into a trance through its wonderful depiction. The different cities in the story are too good to be even fictionally true. All the sentences in the novel are marvelously framed and easy to comprehend. I seriously hope the other books in the series uphold the standard of A New Arrival under Great Skies.
The book definitely satisfies all of its readers, especially those who have a soft corner for fantasy. I was hooked from the prologue to the last sentence. The author also, thoughtfully, has included a glossary of terms unique to the story line, thus making the reader’s job easier.
