Awakening : Book 1 by Tayma Tameem is a story about two sisters, Princess Katja and Princess Amara. The story begins 26 years ago, where Princess Katja is listening her bed time story by her father, King Frenar. The King Frenar was telling his 4 year old daughter, Princess Katja, the story about spirits that control the four seasons. At the same night, King Frenar second daughter, Princess Amara is born, and turns out that she is spirit of winter, Brikkir. The spirit of winter have a power to control and manipulate ice, so it was clear that the Princess Amara is not an ordinary princess, but the one who is born with powers and great responsibilities.

The storyline split between the present and the past. In the present, Princess Katja wakes up in the forest where she found no one near her and with that she gets to know she lost her memory too. She don't know where she was and who she was. After sometime, the only thing she remembers was her name, Katja. Later she reached to one small town and worked in tavern and there she got to know from townsfolk about the terror of Lady Snow, Queen Amara and it turns out bit by bit that Katja is not a normal girl who is suffering from amnesia, but she is Princess Katja, Lady Snow elder sister. Katja found out from the townsfolk that Lady Snow wants to kill Princess Katja and even attempted to kill her before. With her lost memory, Katja tries to run away from Lady Snow with the help of tavern owner and old couple but Lady Snow was not as far as she thought. But why her own sister wants to kill her? Why she was in the forest with no memories of her past? Why Lady Snow, her younger sister is so cruel towards everyone? What will happen when Katja meets Amara?

In the past, the sisterly love between two princesses was unseparable and beautiful. Both the sisters were ready to sacrifice their own life just to protect each other. As Princess Katja delayed her marriage with Prince Aevar because she don't want to leave Princess Amara alone. Both the sisters were each other best friends and shared incredible strong bond even though both of them were different from each other. As Princess Katja is mature, kind hearted, wise and intelligent and on the other hand Princess Amara turns out to be short tempered, mischievous, rude and the one who can't handle her power and unable to understand her gift.

Princess Amara is born with the gift, she is spirit of winter and have powers to build or destroy anything she desires. But from the very young age Princess Amara failed to keep her powers in control. She turned out to be frustrated and impatient, she believes her powers is not a gift but a curse for her. Her anger took control over her and once she killed innocent animal and even taken human life and this incidents changed Princess Amara life completely.

Even though Princess Amara creates lots of trobles wherever she goes, Princess Katja never left her alone and loved her unconditionally. Princess Katja is the only one, who can handle Princess Amara and bring her to normal when she loses her control over her powers and can destroy or kill anyone. In that state of anger, Princess Amara eyes turns out from dark brown to complete blue colour and can freeze anything or anyone.

All the characters are well developed, especially character of Katja and Amara. The book is full of dialogues, actions, magic and powers. The great thing about the book is each chapter have its own tittle, giving readers clue what is further going to happen. The labels is given, as the book shifts from the present to the past, so that the readers may not get confused. The writing style of the author is beautiful and interesting, as the book have lots of wisdom hidden in it, my favorite lines are, “Love is the only power our there that trumps hatred, grief, sadness or anger. I don't remember much of the world, but that much I do know. Love eventually wins”.

There is nothing I don't like about this book. The book is edited professionally. The cover of this book is so beautiful, eye-catching and going with the theme. The author clever unexpected plot twists engaged me to keep on reading. The little romance with Princes in the Princesses birthday parties is an innocent and one of the beautiful part of this book.

The book ended with cliffhanger, the dramatic and exciting ending of the book is making me to read the sequel as soon as possible. I am rating this book with 4 out of 4 stars. As this book is written beautifully in all aspects and the scenes where magic and powers took place were too exciting, shocking and amazingly written.

There are fighting and blood spillage scenes in the book. In some scenes, many people were killed brutally, so I don't recommend this book to young readers and to the one who don't like this kind of fighting and bloody scenes. I would love to recommend this book to people who love reading fantasy fiction novels with lots of magical powers in it with sibling unconditional love.

But why does Lady Snow wants to kill her sister, Katja? Why she was in the forest with no memories of her past? Why is Lady Snow, her younger sister is so cruel towards everyone? What will happen when Katja meets Amara? I look forward to finding out. Thanks for the review.

The plot sounds amazing as Katja don't know why Amara wants to kill her. The book is giving me movie - Frozen vibes. It would be an exciting read with lots of thriller and twists and turns. Thank you for the review.

I too picked up this book to know why Amara wants to kill Katja, the person she loves most. And yes, this book is giving movie Frozen vibes. The powers used is similar to the movie, but the plot is different and more exciting. Thanks for stopping by Twinkle.

The questions posed in the review are enough to compel me to read this one. Unexpected twists and turns take away the mundaneness of any written thing. Thanks for the detailed review!
