Review of Chameleons
WARNING: This book is not for individuals under 18 years old.
Chameleons is an erotic, suspense-filled, adult novel that's written by Onyx Gold. Zia Lennox is the protagonist in this story. She’s young, lives in Los Angeles, and is in the prime of her life as a literary agent at the company Sparks. Zia is heavily devoted to her job that she’s not interested in having a love life or relationship. All of this changes once she captures the attention of two men. Themes of sex, murder, misogyny, race, and love are covered throughout this book.
Zia's life changes when she meets a newly acquired tall, desirable man named Bryce Fink who works in the same building as her. A bit hesitant at first, but she eventually welcomes Bryce's southern charm advances and they start a relationship. The drama comes when Zia becomes intrigued by Baxter, a novelist with who Zia also falls in love with. Both men are wealthy beyond means, but Zia loves different aspects of them; that’s what keeps her trapped in this entanglement. While romance is blooming in Zia’s life, the mysterious death of women is occurring frequently in the news. Who could it be?
I found while reading this book that everything that glitters isn't gold. One of these men is hiding a big, dark secret that can affect the trajectory of Zia's life. Who's the Prince Charming of Zia's fairytale story and who's the devil in disguise? You'll have to read the book to find out.
Chameleons take you on a rollercoaster of emotions and surprising twist-and-turns. The author introduces us to a host of supporting characters in this book, like Zia's co-worker and best friend, Jazz, and her nemesis at work, Makayla. I love that Gold decided to include these characters because they brought more depth to what is happening in Zia’s world and how they fit into the climax of this story.
Since this is an adult novel, I recommend this book for mature adult readers who love books similar to the Zane chronicles. I would not recommend this book to anyone who might be turned off by the racy and explicitly detailed love scenes. Also, theirs lots of profanity used.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and following Zia’s storyline. Chameleons is professionally edited; which makes it easier to follow and read. I decided to give this book 4 out of 4 stars because it kept me interested throughout. Even though this is a 288-page novel, I was able to finish it fast because of the great writing and there are no spelling or grammar errors. This book is a good read and it’s also the first book in the Chameleons book series. There’s nothing I disliked about this book.
