The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Post by crazyforbooks »

This is a must-read for anybody interested in science and the human connection. Henrietta Lacks was the unwitting donor of cells known as HeLa cells. Scientists all over the world have used HeLa in their research, but little is known about the woman from whom they came. I certainly didn't remember her name from my college biology class. Rebecca Skloot brilliantly blends narrative with scientific information about the cells and their history. Through her words, readers can find out more about the woman who lived sixty-some years ago, and the struggles that her family continues to face despite her fame.
