Review of White Night
White Night by J.J. Holt is about Michael Tanner. Michael needed to escape to Canada with a wound on his shoulder that was still bleeding. And especially after hitting someone dead on site where he was working late in the night. Since Michael didn`t have enough cash, crossing to Canada became impossible. Michael being low on cash to get to Canada sold his car and changed Motels a dozen times not to be found by the NYPD now on John`s case with Detective Connors on lead. Detective Connors caught up with Michael and helped him. First taking him to be patched up and second finalizing John`s death puzzle.
Vote of thanks to Holt, I loved this book. I was even looking forward to what might happen next. Has Detective Jennifer Connors carried out an investigation in solving the misery of John`s death? The fact that John Weston chose not to put his unborn child and wife at risk was really amazing. Only a few people will have such an act of courage. John just like any other low-life people in Manhattan would do anything for $20. At the time of his death, Mauro Romano was his boss for another $20 job.
Not to my liking but due to the characters I almost waved the book off with an excuse not to read. There are so many characters in this book that doing a follow-up on the main character was just close to impossible. In the beginning, I thought it was Michael, when John Weston came in through an ongoing investigation of his death, I thought he was the one. It was even harder to think if Detective Connors was the main character since she appeared in most of the chapters. At the point Nikolai Kotov was introduced it became pointless and very complicated.
3 out of 4 stars for this book. White Night had no proper introduction of some characters. I only encountered tons of characters within an action, drama, and a lot of action. Even Detective Connors Second Grade Detective. Anything else she had done before becoming a Detective is missing.
I would recommend White Night to a person who enjoys action drama. The book had tons of investigation and shooting. The drama and action occurred between gang members, and the Detectives themselves. For instance, Michael feared Victor Hansen because he believed he was behind his mother`s death. And very soon though hospitalized escaping death narrowly he might be coming for his head.
