Review of Voice of the Elders
Voice of the Elders by Greg Ripley is a thrilling novel about two parallel worlds one living in total oblivion of the other. Environmental degradation, climatic factors, and threatened livelihood force the revelation of the other world to the earth dwellers who then have to broaden their perspective of the world. They have to consider and accept the existence of other human beings who may be greater than them.
The Earthlings are exposed to new knowledge which they readily accept without much thought. Immortality and supernatural become a promised reality that many would love to taste. The outside world comes with much glitter for the Earthlings and what they see as gold. These among other factors contribute to the earth leaders agreeing to partner with their counterparts from outer space with the slogan of hope, charity, and humility. They are convinced that desperate times call for desperate measures.
However, the themes of greed, crime, war, and mistrust arise throwing their advancements into jeopardy. Greg in his book brings out the reality of social and political climate across the world. He portrays the individual contribution of human beings to the growth or failure of a nation. Insecurities of one individual and selfishness lead to loss of lives and opportunities.
Greg writes about family; the importance of a family and the pain and suffering when lacking one. He builds families not only by blood ties but also by common goals. Those who provide a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on without question. In his work, Greg paints death as a monster that snatches away the best from us when we feel we need them the most.
Greg writes with a lot of suspense throughout his work making it captivating and interesting. He writes knowledgeably of various cultural histories and beautifully links them with the current evolved world. I enjoyed learning a few things about the different cultures of the world. The book emphasizes responsibility and loyalty towards where we belong even to the point of death to serve a greater good.
The thing I loved most about his work is how he makes the differences between people and cultures a source of strength. He shows the power in the diversity of ideas and practices. Greg also promotes environmental conservation through his writing.
The book was exceptionally edited and found no errors in my reading. The book is written in simple and comprehensive English. I would recommend it to readers between thirteen and twenty years and those that love adventure.
I would like to rate the book at 3 out of 4 stars.
