The Fourth Kinetic: Clairvoyants by Brady Moore is a young adult, science fiction novel. Rion Grean is a lonely, seventeen year old who has a difficult time making lasting friendships due to relocating frequently because of his mother’s job. When they move to a new city, Rion attends a new school and everything starts to change. Rion’s mother starts working late hours and Rion starts to question if he ever really knew her. Rion hides his special abilities from everyone, including his mother. Then one day, he gets separated from his mother and realizes he’s in danger. He meets others who are like him and the mystery of what he is starts to unravel.

I really enjoyed the plot of this novel. It was thought-provoking and kept me in suspense. I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next and I could not wait to find out. It was action-packed and exciting to learn about the other characters who are similar to Rion. I also liked that there was a diverse group of characters from their ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds.

The only negative aspect I personally found was that it started off slow. However, I was invested in giving it a fair chance and it turned out that I was not disappointed! After a few chapters it became a page-turner and I couldn’t put it down. It has such an intriguing plot and it keeps you wondering how everyone is connected and how Rion’s mother is involved. I love stories that have twists and turns and during most of the novel I wanted to know if Rion’s mother was like him or what role she played in the story.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The author did a wonderful job setting up a fascinating plot with amazing characters, some who are normal humans and others who have special abilities. The novel is unique and different from other books I have read. Overall, it seemed professionally edited as I had only noticed a minor error in spelling.

I would recommend this book to teens and young adults who are interested in science fiction novels. The novel had minor profanity, so I would recommend it for older, mature teens. It is a good new series to start if you are interested in a book series and not a stand alone novel. It did not have a cliffhanger but it does leave you with unanswered questions that you would need to keep reading the series to have those questions answered.
