Review of Last Words from Above
Jeremy Brown in his book Last Words from Above says that God rather trusts but not love anyone created in his image and likeness. The more God trusts you the more of your inheritance you will have access to. I'll leave that to you to think about. It has been seven years since Jeremy Brown developed his habit of communicating with God. He wakes up at three in the morning and just listens, in the stillness of nature God speaks to him. Jeremy has written six books since then all based on what God says to him or guides him to do. Last Words from Above is the seventh of his books and the last of its kind. This book is quite different from the rest. As the title suggests, "medicine for the spirit", the book is a lot more about spiritual wellbeing. The book is basically composed of two thousand and one quotes about what God says to Jeremy.
Reading through the book, I realize that Jeremy's choice of words, especially for the quotes is nothing random or normal, or perhaps it's not what I am used to. I was tempted to think his sentences had grammatical errors but then I figured, Jeremy writes exactly what God says to him. His style of writing in Last Words from Above is heavily influenced by his spiritual maturity. While some quotes are short and easy to comprehend, others are long enough and quite complicated. Yet they all make perfect sense.
Jeremy Brown imagines the Last Words from Above as a large scroll that has just been discovered, but its wisdom dates back to the beginning of civilization and will still be relevant a thousand years from now. I don't doubt that at all. The book is a written talisman. There are plenty of lessons to learn about life, God to man relationship and man to man relationship. The topics addressed include pride, fear, hate, love, envy, generosity, faith, grace among others.
The quotes will force insight in you. You will have a reflective mind and will see things a lot different. Especially about the will of God on your life, your purpose and destiny. Their is a quote that warns on the desire to be in control of everything in one's life. This is the reason that leads man to give in to the desires of the flesh. You are advised to give God control over everything and trust in him, because you can not accomplish anything without God. You should read the book to get the whole message.
Jeremy Brown says in the Last Words from Above that his goal is to be a great listener and also help others become great listeners. If this book does not challenge you to try and seek God's voice, then it definitely challenges you to think about what it is like to have God speak to you. The book is inspiring and offers wise words to a lost soul.
Except for the long and quite confusing sentences, I did not find anything to dislike about the Last Words from Above. I would not say the book is professionally edited because of the style of writing used. I believe with this understanding, there were no errors in the book. It is well edited. I recommend the Last Words from Above to religious scholars, people who are interested in inspirational books and generally non fiction books. I rate it 3 out of 4 stars.
