Review of How To Be Successful
With a substantial number of 27 chapters, all of which epitomize it's entire contents. How To Be Successful Think Like a Leader is a book written by a survivor and successful business man, M. Curtis McCoy. Curtis McCoy, who had always been an advocate of success, motivation and inspiration set out on the course that would lead to the authoring of this book, after he received a call from someone who was contemplating suicide. Prior to this incident, he ran a blog and social media groups to inspire and motivate others and to aid those who wanted to increase their business respectively. What is more extraordinarily inspiring and as well the reason I referred to him as a survivor earlier is that, despite a series of health battles, which cost him his wealth and some of his friends. He had however, managed to accomplish even more success. He was diagnosed with diabetes at 27 months old and diagnosed with cancer of the brain in his late twenties.
Inside this book, Curtis McCoy attempts to provide insight on the requisite attitudes, behaviors, habits and lifestyle for success. The first chapter contains an introduction by Curtis McCoy. 18 chapters cover Curtis McCoy's perception on attaining and managing success, while Interviews consisting of 15 questions which were organized by Curtis McCoy constitute 8 chapters, and were inserted unevenly among the other chapters of this book. Evidently, Curtis McCoy was able to interview 8 creditably successful people, including himself.
For various reasons, this book has my approbation. One major reason is the inclusion of the insight and experiences of other successful people, through the interviews. Their different narratives apparently suggest that the idea of success is relative to different people. Although, they all seem to have similar ideologies like, staying positive, not giving up, exercising and being fond of loyal and honest people.
Another positive aspect of this book is that a good number of books that may be beneficial to the reader were cited. Some of them include, The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, Rich dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, Positive Personality Profiles: D-I-S-Cover Personality Insights to Understand Yourself and Others by Dr. Robert Rohm.
Noteworthy also, is the fact that Curtis McCoy and majority of those interviewed, acknowledged their belief in God, Jesus Christ and the christian faith, as a contributing factor to their success. Personally, as a christian and believer in God, I have no issues with this. However, people who may have contrary beliefs should take note.
Reading this book was an interesting and insightful experience. I found no grammatical, or typographical errors in this book. In short, it was flawlessly edited. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars and I recommend it to everyone who truly wants to be successful.
