Review of I Know My Way Memoir
During one rainy night, there was a sudden power outage and for some time, my eyes were having a hard time acclimatizing to the darkness for a while. This encounter made me curious and empathetic towards people that are visually impaired and I wondered how people that are completely blind live and survive by just following sounds and depending on contacting objects, and how their environmental elements affect them.
Good vision is an invaluable gift that many people tend to take for granted. If you are a person that has been blessed by good sight who is somehow unhappy and dissatisfied with your current situation, then you should read this book because I am of the opinion that having access to a variety of life’s viewpoints is a critical requirement for living a more fulfilling life. Listening to other people’s tales is one sure way of obtaining these different perspectives. Also, if you are a visually impaired person or someone with any disability of some sort, then I think it will be quite comforting to obtain a sense of belonging and to know that you are not alone. You would get this from people who can relate to your challenges. Also, engaging with others who are different from you in certain areas might lead to having a broader view of life. So, I encourage you to read this book.
I Know My Way Memoir written by Theresa Marafito with Linda Odubayo Thompson is a book that gives an account of a visually impaired lady, Theresa Marafito. The book captures her childhood and all the interesting events she faced in her life till adulthood, and subsequently, her death. Written in the first-person narrative, the book walks us through the challenges that Theresa faced as someone who was born with a partial sight, how she tried to prove she was completely normal time and again, and how she generally managed to make the most of her life despite her condition.
My favorite thing about the memoir is that it was written in a conversational tone. It was excellently crafted and vividly described in a way that made me feel that I was with Theresa through her experiences. Unlike most memoirs that I have come across, I Know My Way Memoir is very interesting. I love how it entertained me and at the same time, taught me many lessons.
There was nothing to dislike about the book. It is written in a very relatable and understandable way. It is also properly edited as I barely came across errors. Taking these into consideration, I give this book a rating of four out of four stars. There is absolutely no reason to make it even one star less than that. I recommend it to every teenager and adult. I think there are great lessons embedded in this memoir that will do everyone some good.
