How To Be Successful by M. Curtis McCoy is a self-help book that takes us into the journey where the author tells the story of several people who somehow crossed their troubles and achieved success. It contains stories and examples plus the personal experience of the author. He has interviewed a lot of successful people and has tried to explain to us the success in terms of their secrets.

The writing style of the author is didactic and after a time begins to bore the readers. It is a very monotonous book containing a lot of interviews with almost the same model messages. Also, most of the people that he has interviewed are successful people in their 50s or 60s or more. This makes those interviews less relatable to the readers who are currently struggling as the advice is from those who are striving for peace in their lives. This is my personal experience of this book and others might differ.

I liked least the interviews and cliched advice from the author. All those interviews ended with advice like work on what you want to, strive for your passion, never give up kind of vibes. These are something we all are familiar with. There was nothing to be gained after reading this book. It felt like a complete waste of time and resources. I liked nothing in this book, the stories in the form of interviews were also very flat without any element of their emotions in them.

I will give this book 1 out of 4 stars. This is because I hated reading this book. It felt like a complete waste of time. All the advice that was shared here is something we all hear from time to time. It would have been better if the interviewers discussed the pressure they had to struggle with and their ways of coping with them or the challenges and how it affects them instead of the typical answer from the top of their head. The book was without any grammatical errors so that was a relief while reading.

Overall, I didn't like this book much and would not recommend it to anyone. However, if you are interested, this book contains a series of interviews with a few successful people (not Bill Gates or Elon Musk, so don't keep that high expectation) where the author asks them a set of questions to which they all sent their replies, nothing else.
