War is the most damaging force on the planet. This is due to the fact that it has negative implications that could damage an entire generation of individuals. Thomas A. McCoy’s The McCoys: Before The Feud is a well-written and engrossing historical novel set during the American Civil War in 1865. It is the first installment in the series.

The protagonist of this charming narrative, Thomas McCoy Jr. (Tommy), is introduced at the opening of this fascinating story. He is a Confederate soldier who has just been defeated in the battle and is about to surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant. Teresa sends a letter to Tommy notifying him that valuables are being robbed from the Southerners. He swears to bring back the stolen valuables and give them to the right owners. He starts to organize his men to embark on a journey to bring back the stolen goods. Will his plan to recover the valuables be successful?

I loved this story. It was a well-written and enjoyable book. Because it is brief, it may be read in a single sitting. The novel is structured into twenty-five chapters, each with plenty of action. The story’s twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. Thomas McCoy is a gifted writer. He employs dialogues to keep the story moving. He also used simple language, making it easy to understand the story. Moreover, being a direct descendant of the McCoy family, he gives detailed and well-researched information on the events and places in the story.

There is nothing about this book that is unsatisfying. Characters were well-developed, which contributed to the story’s flow. Tommy was my favorite character in the narrative. He is a brave man. He is willing to die rather than see his people suffer at the hands of callous foes. Furthermore, he also sets out on a perilous journey to recover the stolen valuables of the Southern people. The story revolves around the idea of war.

I rate this wonderful book 4 out of 4 stars. It was an engrossing novel that had been meticulously edited since I discovered no grammatical or spelling issues while reading it. In addition, the author did an excellent job selecting the book’s cover. It quickly drew my attention. This is a novel that I would suggest to anyone who likes historical fiction. Readers who appreciate Western stories will enjoy it as well.
