Seven-year-old Ixises tells this story, set in and around Uz (modern-day Jordan.) She tells us about life, how they lived in tents, and her father digs a well for the family to have drinking water of how she looked after her younger siblings while her mother cooked on a cooking fire outside the tent. Her best friend is Job, a boy that lives next door. Jabara Jobs's mother is a very successful healer at all Ixises' mother's births. A little later, when both Job and Ixises are slightly older, Ixises parents let them go to the city of Uz with their caravan to trade surplus crops for items they need. Job and Ixises have a great adventure and meet new friends. In their teens, Job moves away to Uz for a position with the magistrate. Ixises feels abandoned and misses Job immensely, and is unable to find her path in life. After a few years, Job realizes he needs Ixises and proposes, she accepts eagerly! The Legacy Of Jobs Wife by Cynthia Koelker tells of the life of Job and Ixises, the ups and downs and heartbreak they endure, and how they come back from the brink. Thanks to Jobs's faith and the live and let live attitude Ixises has isn't as highly religious.

This story is an emotional roller coaster. I loved reading how Job helped the orphans and later employed them. It is so well-plotted that you feel what Job and Ixises feel, and it was a pleasure to read. You see how family and friends are essential to living in a world without doctors and little things we take for granted, such as drinking water and food. If they haven't grown enough, there is no food. The characters you meet are so well defined, it is easy to see them in your mind's eye. As they progress through life, you feel their aches and pains. I liked this story. You get a thumbnail picture of what it was like, to live in that part of the world during that era. The story is well written, as when it finished, I felt all the main character's storylines were not hanging.

There isn't anything negative to say about this book. The storyline flowed. I saw no mistakes, no foul language, or big romance scenes. If anything, this story teaches us to live, love, and be sympathetic to other's beliefs.

I give this book 4 star out of 4. I will recommend this to my family and friends and will reread this one.

This story would be suitable for those who like historical fiction and, to be fair, anyone who loves a good book.
