Review of Zona: The Forbidden Land
What do you do when you discover that your uncle is presumed dead since he disappeared a year ago in a dangerous place in the mountains, do you accept and move on or investigate to find out more information for closure? That's the situation Dr. Grant Taylor found himself in when he received the news that his uncle Randall is presumed dead and left his house under his name in Saint Petersburg. In the book Zona, The Forbidden Land by Fed G. Baker we meet Uncle Randall who lived an adventurous life traveling to his expeditions. He often invited his nephew Grant, however, he never made it to one of his expeditions and now he is full of regrets as his uncle never returned from his last expedition a year ago in Siberia where only one person survived to tell the tale. Grant took a journey to Saint Petersburg to finalize his uncle's estate where he met his uncle's lawyer Mr. Boris who is also a friend and his niece Irina. Boris was the one who had more information on what happened to his uncle, however, he seemed to be hiding something from him. While going through his uncle's library Grant discovered more mysterious things and clues that might lead him to uncover what happened to his uncle at the expedition.
He also finds keys that lead him to the bank safe where he finds a letter written by his uncle warning him not to trust anyone. Grant also meets someone who gives him his uncle's journal that he wrote on the last expedition and tells him not to trust everything he hears. Can the journal give him more information and clues? The government has tried to keep any more information regarding the incident away from the public eye, all these mysteries leave Grant convinced that there is indeed something that's kept a secret from him and he was determined to find what it is. He then volunteers to go to the expedition organized by Boris and the survivor Mr. Volkov to search for his uncle or any clues of what happened there during the last expedition. There were so many theories of the kind of creatures that live on the northern side of Siberia and everyone was curious to see if they are true. On the way to Zona, the crew meets challenges, and had to fight against wild animals for their survival, can the crew that consists of scientists and former militaries fight with the great wolves and lions of the mountains. Will they pass the Sheba pass the place where uncle Randall was last seen?
Will the crew arrive at the Zona, what lies beyond the other side of Siberia that no one has ever been there since World War 2. The book takes us on a journey of what transpired on this expedition, how humans interact with the wild animals. The main question is will find Grant find his uncle or come back with disappointments? I was gasping while reading this book as it left me with so much anticipation of what was to come. I commend the writer for taking my imagination to a world where I surely want to go. The way he described its beauty and tranquility, the peace that pure nature brings to humankind was just out of this world.
I would recommend the book to those who are adventurous and with a wild imagination. I enjoyed the book so much that I had goosebumps all over my body while reading it. I also liked that the author was upfront on its sexual context and gave a fair warning to sensitive readers.
This book was professionally edited, I did not pick any errors in the book. I am giving the book a 4 out of 4 stars as I liked and enjoyed everything. I got an answer to every question I had at the beginning of the book as the book progressed.
