The first thing we usually learn about any thing we want to know about is its name. That’s the beginning of familiarity. So yes, H.J. Chammas have written a book which he named “The Employee Millionaire – Personal Workbook: How to Use Your Day Job to Become a Millionaire with Rental Properties.” The most glaring benefit of this single volume book is that it is a perfect two in one which can easily be broken into two whole books on finance without a diminution in their individual quality. Indeed, once we separate the early chapters of the book from the later ones, what we get respectively are pages that deal solely on personal finance, and then particularly on rental property investment. This makes the book a suitable manual for a wide category of people.

Reading through Chammas’ brilliant book, you could almost get the impression that he was right next to you explaining the basics of something very important. At least that was the impression I got. I loved the book for its pure simplicity. But that is not just it; the author was also very personable. Thus, the personal anecdotes of lessons learnt from Papa Joe, Stewart B., and other personal mentors. It is very difficult to miss the genuineness of his purpose: Chammas really wants you to become an employee millionaire with rental properties. He is not just trying to sell a book. He is talking to you. People often don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Well, Chammas cares a lot because he is a self-made millionaire who was once a non-millionaire with no rental property. And if you must know too, he knows! He knows what he’s talking about and he handholds you through the process in a logical, practical, step by step instructive conversation interjected with timely actionable steps and extra resource materials on his website.

There is hardly anything to subtract from the books merit. It is that good. By defining wealth (in page 31) as “a measure of the number of days forward that an individual can survive without working” he progresses from emphasizing the importance of having unearned (or passive) income to arguing that rental investment is a most lucrative source of such unearned income. However, even though I am hard pressed to find fault with the book, one chink in its shiny armour is the occasional grammatical error. I particularly noticed that the author tends to conflate the two words “ensure” and “assure” with each other. Perhaps it was not professionally edited? I don’t know but the errors seem to suggest so.

For its simplicity, for its informative and easy to read nature, and also its logical sequence, I can honestly rate this book with a 4 out of 4 stars. The errors alluded to earlier were very scarce and so they don’t affect the reading experience negatively.

This book is a very useful manual for novice investors who want to invest in rental properties. It can also be read by any employee who dreams fondly of gaining financial freedom but who may not be ready to invest in rental properties yet. Whether you are seeking to be taught how to invest in rental properties like a professional or you simply want to read some bit of financial literature minus the jargon, this book is for you. I recommend it as a must-read to such individuals.
